Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Pistoia.
Hi Hannah, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
As a young girl, I was always telling stories. Some were true, some were made up, but little did I know that telling them in the form of film would become such a big dream of mine. While in my sophomore year of college, 2019, I started my TikTok account for fun. I did silly trends, posted some skits. Although that was something fun, I did on the side, studying for my Criminal Justice degree was my main focus. However, in 2021, I was minutes away from deleting my account for good when I thought, let me just make one more post — my first posted movie idea. I had no clue that this would be one of the greatest decisions I’ve ever made. After my first viral movie idea, I started posting more of them, and each one did better than the previous. I quickly learned that there was a world full of people that wanted to hear my stories, so I kept telling them. I wish I could say I have some crazy cool process to come up with new ideas, but they truly come to me out of nowhere, triggered by even the smallest of things. By my senior year of college, I had representation in the film industry, reaching out wondering if I wanted to make a career out of my viral stories. After graduating college with my bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, I moved to Hollywood, plunging into the heart of my dreams for making my ideas come to life as real movies. Since then, I have had to completely teach myself screenwriting by scratch. Luckily, I caught on quick, realizing that telling stories is my calling. Every step of the process to making my stories comes to life has been absolutely beautiful and surreal. Without my amazing online audience, support from my friend and family, none of this would have been possible. I am unbelievably grateful for the opportunity to do what I love and share it with the world.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Since I didn’t go to school for film, I struggled at first to learn the ins and outs of what it takes to make a movie/show come to life. However, with the amazing support of those around me, I was able to learn and grow less intimidated by screenwriting and more confident in myself. As a writer, I’ve been able to find my voice and continue to be excited to share it with others.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m most known for being the “Movie Idea Girl” on social media. Being a full-time content creator has opened many doors for me, especially the one where I get to write. Screenwriting gives me the opportunity to do what I love most — telling stories.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
Moving to Los Angeles, all the way from Delaware on the east coast, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Moving to a whole new city sounded daunting. At first it was hard to adjust, however, every day I spend here the more I love it. The people, the culture, and the nature. Hiking and walking around the different parts of the city has shown me how beautiful a place can be when you look at it through a different lens.
