Daily Inspiration: Meet Hanna Searl

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hanna Searl

Hi Hanna, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Yes! We’re Grave Waves, a four-piece alt rock band based out of West LA. We all met through mutual friends and basically hit it off from there. We write about a lot of our experiences out and about in LA, and try to incorporate a blend of high energy and some tongue and cheek humor. Most of us grew up playing in bands and we are having a lot of fun playing and writing together as a group. It feels like magic when you get the chance to play with really talented musicians AND have a great time while doing it. Sometimes things just come together and this was one of those things that just formed really effortlessly and resulted in something great!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
We’ve faced our fair share of challenges, especially being a band that is a bit newer to the scene. It’s all trial and error for the most part, and we learn as we go. There isn’t really a guidebook for this so we try to navigate everything as best we can. Any challenge or setback has really just been a gigantic learning opportunity and we always come out stronger on the other side. As cliche as that may sound.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’d like to think we specialize in taking moments from everyday life and putting them into songs everyone can relate to on some level. I am really proud of our EP we are releasing in late August, I think it gives great insight into who we are as a band and it was really fun to make. However, at this point I think what we are REALLY known for is our hair care routine. Everyone in the band has exceptional hair, and that’s hard to do at this age.

How do you think about luck?
I don’t really believe in luck. So far, it’s been a lot of hard work, consistency, and discipline that have gotten us to this point. And beer. Lots of beer.
