Daily Inspiration: Meet Erik Brown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erik Brown. They and their team shared their story with us below:

Erik Brown is an American Real Estate Professional, Author, and Social Media Influencer. As a Realtor, he and his staff have sold hundreds of homes in multiple states in the US and worked with thousands of people to fulfill their dream home goals. He is also an author of the book “1 in a Million,” an informative guide for home buyers and sellers based on his professional real estate experience.

Brown was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, and learned work ethic at an early age, gaining allowance doing work around his family home, and lied about his age to get his first part-time job at 12 years old. He attended Forest Lake High School, where he was a 3-time All-State athlete in Track and Field. After, Brown attended college and received his Bachelor’s degree in Business Management at St. John’s University in Collegeville, Minnesota. Post college, Erik began buying, renovating, and selling homes in the Minneapolis area. Often called “flipping” homes, Brown participated in several flips as a hobby before entering the real estate industry professionally.

Since 1999, Brown has worked in various entrepreneurial or real estate fields. Brown famously yelled “Success!” on a crowded plane traveling from Dallas to Minneapolis after he was inspired while reading the book, “Rich Dad, Poor Dad.” From 2000 to 2005, Brown “flipped” homes, buying, renovating, and selling them for a profit while also buying and managing rental properties for himself and clients. He sold the property management company he built in 2005 after creating a portfolio of 500 managed and maintained units spread across 30 building owners. In 2007, Brown joined RE/Max and built an award-winning staff, assisting home buyers, sellers, and investors while creating educational programs to assist them in their buying and selling goals.

In 2015 Brown expanded his business to include Beverly Hills and Los Angeles, California, by Joining Teles Properties, later to be acquired by the national firm Douglas Elliman. In 2019, Brown was recruited by Compass, where he is currently a Realtor.

In 2017 Brown became the host of American Properties, a real estate television program airing to 6 million households in Southern California. He was also on an episode of Million Dollar Listing.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Transitioning to a new area and building a network from scratch while selling yourself as a product is challenging. People are buying you, your integrity, character, ethics, and professionalism. There were many bumps along the way: deals that didn’t close, prospects that never became clients, marketing that fell flat. Each failure was a lesson, a stepping stone closer to success.
