Today we’d like to introduce you to Dylan Adler.
Hi Dylan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I am a comedian based in Los Angeles currently. I started by doing improv and stand-up at the same time and then began to incorporate music into my comedy! I continued to write and perform stand-up and just recently got my first job writing for James Corden for the Late Late show!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have definitely been struggles along the way. I was going through a big mental health crisis for many years, and it was difficult to try to continue working to make money in NYC while pursuing comedy. I also encountered many people who were openly homophobic or racist to me on and off stage. But I feel very fortunate now to have a close group of friends who I feel I can lean on.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m most known for some videos, I believe, but I’m most proud of my stand-up and musical comedy! I’m especially proud of my show, “Rape Victims are Horny Too,” that I wrote with my best friend Kelly. It’s a musical comedy show about healing from rape trauma, and writing and performing the show has been incredibly cathartic and healing for both of us. The show also seems to have a big impact on fellow survivors who’ve seen the show. We are both very proud of it.
Comedically also, my favorite thing is to watch someone commit fully to their bits, and it’s something that I try to do as well.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I see a big shift in where comedy is consumed. I feel like there has been a huge shift when it comes to streaming platforms and how many people are watching comedy from apps like Tik Tok, Twitter, and Instagram. I think the trend is going up for comedy being consumed on apps and only seems to continue in that direction.
