Daily Inspiration: Meet Dimitri Pollalis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dimitri Pollalis.

Hi Dimitri, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up and studied medicine in Greece, and a few years ago I moved to the U.S. to keep pursuing my career as a doctor. Somewhere along that journey, I discovered photography and filmmaking — and it completely changed how I see the world. What started as a small creative escape slowly became a real passion. It’s exciting how life can take you in directions you never planned for — I came here to follow one dream and ended up finding another that feels just as meaningful.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Having a stable job definitely helps, but the creative path is never a smooth one. There are moments of doubt, exhaustion, and uncertainty — but they’re all part of the process. Every struggle has been worth it, and I’m genuinely grateful for the people I’ve met along the way. The friends and collaborators I’ve found here have played such a big role in helping me bring my ideas to life and keep chasing this dream.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My passion has always been cinema. I’ve been going to the movies at least once a week since I can remember — it’s still one of my favorite rituals. Most of my inspiration comes from film, so I’d say cinematic photography is really my thing. I especially love shooting on film — there’s something about the texture, mood, and unpredictability that feels alive and timeless. I’m also deeply inspired by the work of directors like Tarantino, David Lynch, and Wong Kar Wai; their style and storytelling influence both my photography and the vibe of my short films. Right now, I’m working on several projects that I’m really excited about, and I recently finished shooting my first short film — with a second one already in the works. Seeing these ideas come to life has been one of the most rewarding parts of this journey.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was always very creative. I loved drawing — that’s really how everything started for me. I could spend hours sketching faces, places, or whatever came to mind. It was my way of escaping. I was also really into movies from a young age; going to the cinema was my favorite thing to do, and it quickly became a big part of my life. I think that mix of visual art and storytelling naturally led me to photography and filmmaking later on. In a way, I’m still doing the same thing I did as a kid — just with a camera instead of a pencil.
