Daily Inspiration: Meet Darnell Donohue

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darnell Donohue

Hi Darnell, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Grew up singing along to the radio and in church and school choirs. Producer Charlie Heat went to the same high school as me and invited me to make some music with him as he was already producing in high school and knew how we could record and make songs. We started making songs and I instantly knew I wanted to make music and be an artist. I later started experimenting with rap and producing myself and others. I went on to have my own studio in my hometown and built out one in the house of my Mother where a decent amount of people visited and recorded there. I later moved to LA around 2017 working with people in the industry such as Jean BAPTISTE, Lil Yacthy, Kid Ink. Through the years I’ve accumulated a number of credits writing and producing. I’m currently still producing and writing and working on breaking new artist

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not a smooth road. There’s been so many difficult moments and decisions that were made. Also the sacrifices of pursuing this career. Unpaid bills, skipped meals, borrowed money, lost relationships, low moments inside and outside of the studio. Many lessons learned and still learning

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I produce and write music with artist and other creatives. I have a pretty extensive catalog of sync placements in tv. I like to push the envelope and be creative, bringing my own twist, style, and confidence to my creations in music. Producing the instrumentaion, writing the lyrics and sometimes even putting my vocals on the songs. I’m most known for cool, vibey, and edgy creations in my production, writing and vocal. I’m most proud of funny or thought provoking lyrics. I also love a good beat that people can listen to on repeat and not get tired of. I think my individuality and my confidence in presenting is what sets me apart. Sometimes I’m right even when I’m “wrong” lol

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I think there will be so many changes in music because of technology and social apps. Ai songs and music and people getting heard by having their creations go “viral” on social media apps
