Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Marshall
Hi Danielle, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I got my start as a Sales Associate at Bloomingdales in Tysons Corner, VA. While attending Graduate School at John Hopkins University, I worked there part-time and discovered I had a real talent for styling individuals from all walks of life. To my surprise, my clientele grew expontentially after being promoted from Sales Associate to Personal Shopper. I am grateful for every referral, recommendation, and opportunity that allowed me to share my gift and expand my business to where it is today! It took a lot of resilience, discipline, patience and dedication to see the fruit of my labor (especially the labor when I worked for free!)
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As a freelancer, I have experienced fluctuations in my earnings due to the unpredictability of work opportunities and project timelines. Also, it can be challenging to consistently find new clients and secure projects in a competitive market. Establishing credibility and gaining recognition as a freelancer in the fashion industry can be difficult, especially when starting out. I have also struggled at times to find a balance between staying true to my artistic vision and meeting clients’ expectations and commercial demands. Juggling multiple projects and clients simultaneously can be overwhelming and challenging to prioritize tasks and deadlines.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Celebrity Wardrobe Stylist and a Professor at Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. I specialize in styling women and men for photo or video shoots, for events, and for rebranding. I also do closet makeovers and virtual styling. I am well-known for my eye for detail. God has gifted me with this skill to ensure accuracy and excellence in the finished product or look. It involves being able to observe and analyze fine details that others may overlook, and to notice patterns, inconsistencies, or errors that may be easily missed. I believe I am most proud of preparing the next generation of stylists with the classes I offer in-person and virtually.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
I definitely learned to appreciate breaks and rest during those times. We are gifted these opportunities to reset, refocus and tap even more into our creative skills and abilities. It’s because of the pandemic that I will soon be launching my first clothing product! Stay tuned!
