Cassie Mcc

Hi Cassie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
It’s a funny story because I do eyebrows and lash lifts. People often think I’m an esthetician, but I’m actually a cosmetologist and started out doing hair! I’m from the Bay Area, which is where I went to school and started my journey. It’s also where I found my love for Brows! After leaving a full-service salon, I actually worked at DryBar before finally doing brows full time at a Benefit brow bar inside an Ulta! I have always loved cosmetics and beauty so it just seemed so fitting to be in between it all at a benefit brow/beauty counter! The Bay Area, back then, was nothing like it is in LA. As far as being able to pursue one talent full-time and flourish! So, I eventually decided to chase my dreams and start over in Los Angeles. It’s been almost ten years now, and it still feels like yesterday. Even though it seems completely glamorous, it hasn’t always been that way.

Upon arriving to LA, I had only my Last paycheck to get me by and a dream. One way or another I was going to make it. I started applying for jobs immediately! Thankfully I was a Jack of all trades. So I found a job at a blow dry bar who allowed my to also wax brows! I was a freelance makeup artist to anyone who would book me and eventually was able to work for benefit again, this time in a Macy’s department store. I always wanted more. At this time, social media was becoming huge and the only way I really knew how to put myself out there. Thus how “browsbycass” was born! I started posting my work in hopes to start taking clients on my off days to eventually start my own thing. This is actually how a famous brow artist at the time found me and reached out to offer me a job. Of course, I took it! I felt like it was my own manifestations coming to fruition! I worked there for about a year and that is where I was able to build my portfolio, clientele, experience and where I started to work with different celebrities.

Unfortunately that came to an end, but it was my biggest blessing in disguise. When I stopped working there, I actually had no plan, hardly any money, was a single mom of 2 kids, 1 under 1 and just had to figure it out. So I took my last paycheck and bought all of the things I needed to start working from home. I thank god I had a following on social media to help rebuild my clientele and turned my home into a workspace six days a week until I could afford my very first work studio. Fast forwarding a bit, I have now been on my own for eight years and counting. I have taken my time and elevated each working space I have had with the goal of transforming my brand from personal to potentially global. Of course, I will always be Browsbycass, but as my brand grew, so did my goals, dreams, and ambitions, and that is where I created what is now LamyLift. A professional and consumer product/brand. Innovating the world of brow lamination, lash lifts, and cosmetics in the heart of LA on W 3rd St near the grove.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been far from smooth, but nothing worth having comes easy! With each level of “success” comes a new struggle, right? The hardest one to date had to be surviving Covid. Covid wasn’t only a complete set back I felt like it was a “reset”. Not only were we forced to shut down, but I had to close my studio indefinitely. Then, when people did feel safe again and we got the “ok” to work..I could no longer afford to have a location that I worked so hard for, nor did I have a full clientele because there was still a large amount of people still afraid to “go back to normal”. Nonetheless, I refused to give up on my dream. So I scraped up what I could and decided to move into a place that I could live in and work from once more. Starting over has never scarred me, and having kids has always been my motivation to find a way.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a celebrity Brow artist and Lash lift specialist. I started out being most known for my Eyebrow services and over the last four years have been equally as known for lash lifts. I am most proud of my brand Lamy Lift! I created it around brow laminations and lash lifts as well as being a brand known for “multi-use”. Where most other brands who offer the same solutions my brand offers, they sell them individually. Brow lamination solutions separate from lash lift solutions, where our brand actually sells it 2 in 1. 1 solution used for both services. As well as our tools and cosmetics. Almost everything in our line is multi-use for other services. Our cosmetics are also used for both brows and lashes. Whichever the consumer deans fit. That alone, sets us apart from others.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, things were difficult. My family and I faced economic disadvantages, so I didn’t always get the opportunity to indulge in my interests, but I was always optimistic. I always wanted more for myself and never seen it not being a possibility. However, I was always somehow drawn to the beauty industry. One of my first jobs was front desk at a friend’s family’s day spa and at a tanning salon. I always knew eventually I would make it to a place where I would be able to find myself, my personal interests and as I grew up I did just that by putting myself through beauty school!
