Today we’d like to introduce you to Carrie Dietz Brown.
Hi Carrie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I grew up in Los Angeles and finished my degree in painting from CSU Long Beach in 2013. I’ve showed my work continuously, most recently represented by Suite6 gallery in Manhattan Beach. I paint large-scale watercolors, mainly representational that focus on ideas of friendship and home. My studio is in old-town Torrance and I’m just wrapping up a series on alternate histories that I’ve worked on for two years. I’m excited to get started on some new work once I’ve completed this project.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’ve always been a huge fan of the “slow and steady” approach to working. I try to not let any bit of success mean too much. I just keep a consistent momentum and paint a little bit more every year and my work gets a little bit better year by and year. I’m just gonna keep working as hard as I can until I’m 75 and then I’m going to move to Paris and get very into partying.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m most proud of how my work has been getting larger in scale and more personal in content during the past two years. And I’m also grateful for knowing that I’ve gotten to the end of my series with plans to escalate my new work. I’m pretty comfortable with how joyful my work has always been (whether joy has been easy or hard to come by) and the momentum and consistency of my practice has made the joy propel itself through the work.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Music, paintings, and novels will save your days over and over again.
