Daily Inspiration: Meet Ariel Arbisser

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ariel Arbisser

Hi Ariel, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m a recording and performing artist based in Ithaca, New York. I spent a decade+ in the professional a cappella community focusing on vocal music, acting, and coaching singers on how to connect more honestly with their material. Now I have the pleasure of writing and recording my own music and bringing that same authenticity to the stage with my own band. I love all kinds of music but my focus lately has been on pop/rock/disco/electronic.

My second album “Ingenue Corrupt” was released in early 2024. It’s a retrospective on my experience in journaling and therapy while processing a traumatic relationship.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My biggest roadblock was the traumatic relationship I dedicated my covid-years to recovery from. Just before the pandemic I escaped an abusive partner who had pulled me away from myself, my loved ones, and all of my passions including music. I had an album waiting in the wings and my voice was shut down. It took hard work and commitment to therapy and self-care (the tough kind) to bring myself back to life and to my work. In 2021 I released my debut album “Risk of Love” and in 2024 released my second “Ingenue Corrupt.” Leaving that relationship and recovering from that trauma have been the biggest struggles of my life and leave me to be enthusiastic about bringing mental health resources to all communities.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a vocalist and songwriter known for bringing an emotional honesty to my performances on stage and in the recording studio. At times audience members and listeners have offered feedback that my music makes them feel more seen and less alone… that’s something I’m incredibly proud of. I don’t necessarily make music that’s easily consumable, but I make music that feels important – messages I wish I’d received growing up.

I think there’s a movement to be more vulnerable on stage and I’m in favor of it. There are times it can feel forced or put on, an effort to emotionally manipulate audiences rather than connect with them. I’d like to believe the people who come to my shows leave feeling inspired and witnessed rather than preached to.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I’m a big fan of asking questions and asking for help. Ask if you can buy someone a coffee or invite them to a zoom. Everyone you speak to might give you answers, but if you listen closely, you’ll know who cares about your success and well-being. Be grateful to those who offer their time and wisdom.
