Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Tisner.
Hi Angela, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have always felt that music was my first language, a way to translate the world’s textures, silences, and emotions into sound. I grew up in Madrid surrounded by friends and music, two of the most grounding forces in my life. My path began with classical training. I studied cello, guitar, and composition in Paris, earning diplomas from the American College of Music and the Sorbonne University, where I also explored Art History and Film.
Over the years, my curiosity led me beyond the concert hall. I became deeply interested in ethnomusicology, in how music preserves the memory of people and places. This passion took me to remote regions, from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to the islands of Hydra and Corsica, where I recorded traditional songs on the verge of disappearance. My goal has always been to give new life to these voices by integrating their essence into modern compositions.
After completing a Fulbright in Los Angeles, California, I specialized in Film Scoring. Since then, I have been working as a composer and sound designer, collaborating with studios like Bleeding Fingers Music and developing projects that blend field recording, sound design, and storytelling.
Today, I divide my time between the United States and Europe, continuing to create music for film, documentaries, and games, while also protecting our immaterial sound heritage.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been a complicated but amazing journey. Pursuing what you truly love takes a lot of courage, dedication, and perseverance. Every step has been challenging, but the reward of creating meaningful music makes it all worth it.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a composer and sound designer, creating music that tells stories and preserves voices that might otherwise be lost. I specialize in blending traditional and endangered music with modern composition, bringing these sounds into films, documentaries, and games. I am most proud of my work recording and giving new life to music from places like Corsica, Ethiopia, and Greece. What sets me apart is my deep connection to the cultures I work with and my commitment to creating music that is both meaningful and immersive.
What makes you happy?
Friends, music, animals, and strange things, Charlie Chaplin.
