Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Majors
Hi Amanda, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in north Texas to a very sweet older couple and I was raised in a typical one-story house in the suburbs.
Growing up is complicated. I still feel like a big kid to be honest!
One thing I learned through odd jobs, school & being a girl: is how easy it is to be insecure especially in a society that picks us apart by our appearance. In my practice, I try to empower the individual as well as learn a little bit about their perspective/life story.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Life is full of choices.
It’s a journey.
It’s not always smooth but it’s a wild ride & a celebration.
I do photography not because it’s easy but because it is cathartic + it gives me a way to connect to many different communities.
I think finding meaning and stability after a breakdown was tough. Loosing my mom was tough. But that’s life. It’s all a part of the journey. I am a big believer that art mimics life.
I also do photography to remember the people I love.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have always believed a good portrait explores the complicated, messy, vulnerable, resilient and ultimately beautiful individuals we are.
I am a portrait artist.
I also do boudoir photography [which is what I am including in this interview]
I luv retro-infused/pin-up style boudoir and I luv to make individuals feel good in their bodies.
Photography is a two way street and it’s first and foremost a collaboration.
When I create photos subjects can be proud of that are mutually beneficial: I feel I have done my job.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
How fragile life is and to make the most out of what’s in front of me.
