Daily Inspiration: Meet Ally Johnson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ally Johnson.

Hi Ally, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
From an early age I was fascinated by television and all forms of entertainment. I was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana and a life in an area of show business felt very far away from anything I could even imagine. It was then when I was in high school and I binged watched “The OC” that I was so incredibly moved by that series, I decided “Whatever job it is to make this a show like this I want.” From there I studied Film and Media Production in college, Screenwriting (Comedy) in graduate school, and then moved out to LA to pursue this field full-time.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Absolutely, not! This industry has changed a lot over the years: theater/entertainment companies shutting down, pandemic, industry strikes all of which I’ve had to adapt to.

I’ve also experienced some personal challenges, like pursuing this dream and being far away from the greatest support system out there- my family.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a Television and Event Maker by day and a comedian by night. I have worked on TV show sets for major networks like Fox, CBS, Game Show Network, NBC, and more. I’ve also recently started a job where I coordinate and support digital and in-person events at WEBTOON Entertainment.

I am a sketch and improv comedian where I’ve performed and studied at theaters around LA. My main comedic endeavor is my sketch comedy team “Bedhead.” We are a House Sketch Team at The Pack Theater in Los Feliz. We write, produce, and perform monthly sketch shows. Bedhead shows are 40 minutes of fish-out-of-water and/or game-based style sketches.

What sets me apart from others is my background. Growing up my mom was a school teacher and my dad worked at a shipping company- two careers very far from entertainment. It was through watching my parents’ hard work and dedication, and feeling their unwavering support that inspired me to step out on faith- I moved to the entertainment capital of the world and have been able to take part in the industry and make art I’m very proud of.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I hope to see the industry continue to become more diverse. I see more voices and perspectives getting space at the table to tell stories with more nuance and radiating joy.
