Daily Inspiration: Meet Alfonso Buitrago-Jimenez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alfonso Buitrago-Jimenez.

Alfonso Buitrago-Jimenez

Hi Alfonso, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
International Associate American Institute of Architects (AIA) Institute of Classical Architecture & Art
LA Conservancy

Alfonso is an International Associate member of the AIA with a degree in Architecture from Universidad del Valle, Cali-Colombia, with studies at California State University, Long Beach CSULB, and University of California Los Angeles UCLA . From a young age, he has been interested in the endless possibilities that Art and Architecture have to offer. He spent his formative years in his native Colombia working for the Housing and Planning Departments. In Southern California, he had the opportunity to collaborate with several firms and four different tv shows, where Alfonso learned the value of creating spaces which improve people’s lives. His skills have been most appreciated in the design of many beautiful remodels, new homes, and by happy clients. His approach has always been to first understand a client’s wishes and needs, then analyze any possible challenges and finally create the most beautiful of designs. Alfonso has used his skilled talents and years of experience in Southern California to create a truly unique and progressive design practice.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a long journey—from arriving as an immigrant and learning the language to familiarizing myself with construction methods, codes, industry standards etc. I remember my days working in warehouses, as a gardener, and even as a pizza delivery driver; it has been a long road that has brought me to where I stand today, but it has all been worth it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a residential designer. I treat every project as if it were my own home, and I act as an advisor to my clients to ensure they benefit from their investment in the short, medium, and long term.
I’m artist but my job is to make other people dreams come true.
I am known for delivering high-quality work, keeping my promises, and charging a fair price.
All my clients are a priority—regardless of the size of the project.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
Los Angeles is a multifaceted, multicultural city, full of activities to suit every taste. I love Los Angeles!
I believe that the lack of a true mass transit system contributes significantly to the chaos we are experiencing today, to the detriment of people’s quality of life.
