Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Gelacio
Hi Vanessa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Born and raised in Colombia, I started acting in the most Bohemian and Grubby looking theater. Little did I know, that theater, would teach me some of the best survival skills as an artist and storyteller.
It’s funny to think how I got to where I am today because I owe it all to keeping a positive mindset, when I moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career I promised myself I would only focus on acting and merge myself in the craft and just go on a complete solo journey, no friends, no parties, cut all social interactions and only study my scripts and plays and go above and beyond to absorb as much knowledge as possible from the teachers I had, because at the time, I didn’t know if I could afford doing it all again!
Looking back, I am proud of my younger self for doing that but boy I wouldn’t do that again! I appreciate friendships and understand that life is a balance…now I like to think of ways to make the world a better place , I love sports, hiking, swimming, gambling, making people laugh and have fun in the process! and acting and music are my instrument to achieve all those things.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Moving abroad by myself has been the biggest challenge, I miss having a steady support system (Family and close friends) in a city that is so transitional, focusing on finding a stable social circle and mental health practices has helped me stay focused on my acting goals.
My impatience has also been an obstacle in many ways, I want to see results now because I always work, work, work but the industry requires patience and just enjoying the journey and focusing on other tasks.
Definitely a humbling road, but rewarding!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I think of myself as a story teller, a white canvas ready to be painted on with a colorful story, I always try to approach projects with a purpose and be as professional as possible, I’ve done multiple national commercials where you might recognize my face (Pfizer, Democratic coalition and Apple, Dole, etc..) as well as mini series and shortfilms (Tru luv waits, The art of Baking, The Tenant (2025) and feature films (E Pluribus Unum (2025) , I am also a filmmaker myself and acting teacher so you can say I’m a jack of all trades, when I’m in front of the camera I have great understanding of all the nooks and crannies that take to get a good project done along with communication skills to do my best playing honor to the story being told.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
I would say • just hit the ground running, be professional and appreciative of every project, cast and crew! • Don’t put acting in a pedestal and •Do things and make choices from the heart.
