Conversations with Tiffany Harding

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Harding.

Tiffany, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started as a rap artist in 2013, recording and performing in my hometown Columbus, Ohio. Two years later, I purchased my first DSLR camera mainly because I wanted to make some extra money to invest into my music. I watched a bunch of YouTube tutorials and learn how to operate my camera and edit videos. I had a little name in my city so I reached out to a bunch of different artists asking them to let me shoot a video for them, I think I started off charging like forty bucks per video. One day one of my friends came to my house with a book he wrote a few years prior, he asked me to help him turn it into a movie. I didn’t know how to do that but was eager to learn.

Long story short, he and I had creative differences while writing the film so we went our separate ways and I began writing my first original screenplay titled “Breathe the Hustle” in October 2015. The following year we shot and released season one of the drama series then released it on Youtube. After years of filming Breathe the Hustle and other no budget projects, I became bored with my element and wanted to understand the art of filmmaking from an industry perspective. I knew I couldn’t elevate my skills in Ohio so in December of 2018, I packed up and moved to Los Angeles. I landed my first couple of background gigs and began to learn how an actual big-budget set worked. I wanted to be more hands-on so I accepted an offer to intern at LA Acting Studios for a few weeks. The internship taught me how to build and breakdown sets which was cool but I still wanted to learn more. In 2019 I accepted a few gigs as a Production Assistant for various sets, those gigs gave me the confidence and knowledge to produce my first budget film, so In September 2020 I hired a small crew and we filmed “Kappin”. a mini-series about the journey of a struggling rap artist who lies to her cousin about getting signed so she can borrow money to move to Los Angeles to pursue her dream. Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road hasn’t been easy. I worked a 9 to 5 while in my hometown so I could survive but most of the time I would spend my whole check on investments and have to eat at my mom’s house. When I moved to Los Angeles I didn’t have any friends or family here so I stayed in a private Airbnb room for a few months. Money ran low and I went from staying in a private room to a hostel, where I had to share a bedroom with 23 strangers. My mother was very supportive during my transition from Ohio to California and would send me money anytime she could. After a year of living from Airbnb to Airbnb I obtained my first apartment in Koreatown, four days before the global pandemic.

I am a rap artist, promoter, event host, screenwriter, director, producer, cinematographer, editor but I am most proud of creating a beautiful daughter who supports me and understands that I live in Los Angeles not because I abandoned her but because I am building a better future for us,

Don’t ever give up! I wish I would have believed in myself sooner but I am glad I believe now.
