Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Cepeda.
Hi Tiffany, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Well, for starters, I’m a single working mother of two amazing children. I love them so much and I like for people to know that that’s my first and most prized title.
I also song write and manage my own catalog of music independently; under my own music label, which I created to help facilitate my own work and business (Gray Sky Blue Entertainment LLC).
I’ve been singing all my life, you know, the typical singer’s childhood. My first job in high school was a lead vocalist for a really big R&B cover band in Northern California. They taught me so much, and they’re forever family because of that. Shortly after, I was pregnant with my first child and was married a few weeks before her arrival. For the next 5 years, I was a stay-at-home homeschool mom who pursued music only in church, singing mostly contemporary Christian music. It was a completely different season for me that i both enjoyed and found discontentment within. I wanted more out of life; I wanted to give more to my children and set an example (even more) for them to follow, and I wanted to create music that talked about my trials and triumphs in life, not just about Jesus.
In 2019, I made the decision to begin writing and putting out secular music and stopped worrying about what others thought of me. As I transitioned into becoming a single working mom of two, I wanted to teach my children that whatever it is you want to pursue in life, just do it and do it happily with a good heart and good intentions.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I can’t lie; it’s been a very trialing road. Don’t get me wrong, there have been many rewarding moments on this journey, but as a single mom, I’ve had to not only provide for my household but fight for the time to create music and manage it all on my own.
It’s hard, too, because a lot of my peers in music don’t have children to raise and just have a lot more time on their hands. I usually have a very small (yet dedicated) window of time every day for music, marketing, and social media management. If anything, though, this journey has taught me so much about who I am as a woman, what I need to prioritize and filter out of my life, and why I am doing what I’m doing.
Gratitude has been the key to making this road a lot more manageable.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am singer, songwriter, and tracking engineer. I do 75% of my work from my own home studio. I am mostly known for songwriting. What I’m most proud of is honestly the resiliency and determination I’ve had to keep going, even when everyone around me says I’m “doing too much work as a single mom.” I don’t ever want my title as a working single mom to “cripple” me in pursuing my passion in music. I love the hard work and I want my children to see that if you want something bad, to fight for it and never give up.
What’s next?
My future plans are to expand my team to help others build their own passions in music by facilitating them with their social media marketing and management needs. Both of my children are creatives also, so I plan to put a lot of time into growing their own creative brand as well.
