Introducing The Hat Ladies!!!

Lisa and Joanie Pimentel, affectionately known as The Hat Ladies, are a dynamic duo of musical sisters and seasoned music educators from California. With their extensive backgrounds in teaching, performing, music production, and songwriting, they bring a wealth of joy and creativity to their musical adventures.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Our music has always been at the heart of what we do.

We both teach elementary school music at Oakwood School. We write, record, produce, and perform original music, We love all of this and the drive to create over and over keeps us energized and inspired for the “next thing.”

I would say staying focused is our biggest challenge.

Having a great record that you pour your heart into is awesome, but getting people to hear it when they have a gazillion other things desperate for their attention is a whole different skill set. We have a podcast, a YouTube show, two records up on all streaming sites, and are working on our third record.. We design and create merchandise, update a website with promo pics and soundbites, and manage our money and income streams.

We play live shows regularly, go to conferences about children’s music, do interviews, and try to keep up with our Social Media. We have a team, which is essential, but to be authentic, we really need to do so much of ourselves, especially socials. This takes time, money, patience, and perseverance to keep up in a consistently fast-paced universe. Super challenging.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We have released two full albums and one newly released holiday single as The Hat Ladies. All our songs are available on all streaming sites.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
LisaP- I have a memory about Joanie. When Joanie was seven years old, she was in a first-grade production of “Annie” …only they called the show “Joanie.”

Joanie was the lead in the show. She was soooo charismatic and her voice filled the room with all the big hits… “The Sun will Come out Tomorrow.” “Maybe” and others. Even back then her voice completely blew everyone away. She is still doing it today! She might even sing one of those old numbers if you ask her!

In 2nd grade, she played the “Wicked Witch of the West” haha so good. Our dad did all the special effects for the show. He got way into it.
