My Baking Journey: From Passion to Purpose
Cooking has always been a passion of mine since childhood, but baking was something I had never ventured into—until life brought me to Southern California in April 2012. It was my first Mother’s Day with my in-laws, and I wanted to celebrate with a cake. However, finding an eggless cake was a challenge since most of my family doesn’t eat eggs. So, I decided to bake my first cake ever, and that moment ignited a new passion within me.What began as a simple solution for a family celebration soon became an obsession. Baking, especially without eggs, is a precise art, and I was determined to master it. I dove deep into understanding the science behind eggless baking, experimenting in my kitchen, and refining my recipes. My friends and family loved the results, and soon, my hobby started to grow into something more.While working full-time in a corporate job, I continued to bake for loved ones. Word of mouth began to spread, and even my coworkers started ordering from me. My little side project slowly transformed into a business, driven by the joy of creating delicious treats that everyone could enjoy.As my confidence and skills grew, I began infusing Indian flavors into my baked goods, creating unique treats like cardamom chocolate chip cookies, cassata dessert cups, and shahitukda cups. One of the most memorable moments in my journey was when I baked a mango cake for a couple celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. They were in their 70s and had never tried cake before due to dietary restrictions. The joy on their faces reaffirmed my mission: to bring the joy of baked goods to those who had never experienced it before.Last year marked a significant milestone in my journey—I partnered with Surati Farsan Mart in Cerritos and secured my first store location. After nine years of dedication and hard work, I am now part of the Surati Farsan Mart family, offering fusion and modern desserts and cakes alongside traditional sweets and snacks.My journey from that first eggless cake to where I am today has been filled with learning, passion, and a deep commitment to making delicious, inclusive baked goods. And I’m just getting started.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like any business, my journey has been filled with challenges. When I first started baking as a hobby, attracting new customers was difficult. Transitioning into the retail space brought its own set of hurdles. I struggled initially with scaling up to larger batches and understanding the complexities of the retail business model. The unpredictability of retail is demanding, and coming from a non-business background, managing these aspects was particularly challenging for me.When I joined Surati Farsan Mart last year, I had no employees and relied heavily on the unwavering support of my mom and husband. During the holiday seasons, I often found myself working over 16 hours a day. While these challenges may seem small to some, the shift from a corporate career to running my own business without any prior guidance was a significant leap. This experience has taught me resilience and the importance of perseverance in the face of uncertainty.

Leaving behind a comfortable and well-paying corporate job to pursue my passion in baking was the biggest risk I ever took—but it’s also the most rewarding. I am proud of the journey I’ve embarked on, confident in my skills, and determined to make a difference in society through my services.
My dream? To make my brand the go-to name for everyone with dietary restrictions. I believe in the saying, “Follow your passion, and success will follow.” That’s exactly what I’m doing every single day.
