Today we’d like to introduce you to Seulki Park.
Hi Seulki, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Sure! I studied painting back in Korea and started out working as a porcelain painter before getting into tattooing. I’ve always enjoyed working with delicate, detailed surfaces, so the transition to tattooing felt surprisingly natural for me.
What really draws me in is the connection between art and everyday life. I’ve always loved plants—gardening is a big part of my life—and that definitely shows up in my work. A lot of my designs are inspired by nature, especially flowers and the quiet stories they can hold.
I’m now based in Los Angeles, working at VISM Studio, where I get to create custom pieces that are both gentle and bold. I see tattooing as a collaboration, and I love helping people mark meaningful moments or simply express something beautiful on their skin.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t always been smooth. One of the biggest challenges was figuring out how to develop a style that felt honest to me. There’s so much incredible work out there, so finding a visual voice that stands out—while still feeling natural—took time.
My background in porcelain painting helped a lot. It taught me how to be patient with fine details, and I’ve tried to bring that same precision and softness into my tattoo work. Balancing something feminine with something intricate became a big part of my focus, and that’s how I slowly started carving out my own space in the tattoo scene.
Another big challenge was moving to the U.S. with my whole family. It meant starting from scratch in a new country, adjusting to everything—from the language to the culture—and building up my practice again in a totally different environment. It’s been a lot of work, but also incredibly rewarding.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I create custom tattoos that are often inspired by nature—especially flowers and plants—but always with a focus on softness, detail, and emotional meaning. My style leans feminine and delicate, but I try to bring depth into it too, both visually and symbolically.
A lot of people come to me wanting something that feels quiet but personal—like a tribute to a loved one, a memory, or even a part of themselves they want to honor. I love turning those feelings into something visual, something that can live on their skin in a gentle, lasting way.
I think what sets my work apart is the combination of fine detail and emotional sensitivity. My background in porcelain painting really shaped the way I approach linework and shading—I’m very intentional with how each element flows and fits the body.
What I’m most proud of is that people often say my tattoos feel calm and intimate. That trust means a lot to me. It’s not just about making something pretty—it’s about creating something that feels true to the person wearing it.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Take your time. It’s easy to feel rushed when you’re starting out—like you have to find your style right away or prove yourself fast. But honestly, building your voice as an artist takes time, and that’s okay. Be patient with your growth.
Also, don’t underestimate the basics. Understanding how to draw well, how the body moves, and how different skin types respond to ink—those foundational things really matter.
One thing I wish I had known earlier is that it’s okay to stay quiet and just focus on your work. You don’t have to be loud or trendy to be good. If you stay consistent, honest, and keep putting care into what you do, people will recognize it.
And finally—surround yourself with people who inspire you and who make you feel safe to grow. This work is personal and emotional, and having a good support system makes a huge difference.
