Conversations with Omar Castanon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Omar Castanon.

Hi Omar, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been a cinematic portrait photographer for over 8 years now. I enjoy capturing moments that are larger than life and bringing to reality how others see themselves in their own head.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’m a self-taught photographer so there has been a lot of ups and downs throughout my career. I’ve found a lot of joy in being able to learn creative ways to bring to life my vision. Sometimes it’s out of my current skill level and so I will take what I learn and apply it again in the future until I’m satisfied with the end product. It’s nice to compare my past work to my current work and see all of the growth in my own skills over the years.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a cinematic portrait photographer that specializes in dramatic lighting. I have a very unique photography style that a lot of people have told me is instantly recognizable as my own. I enjoy incorporating narratives in my work that tell stories in each image that you see. Because of this, I’ve been able to share my work in various art galleries around the world. I’ve been very grateful that my work resonates with so many people around the world.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I think I’ve been very lucky to get my work in front of the right audience in order to see the success that I’ve had thus far. Word of mouth is very important for my business, so networking and making meaningful connections has opened a lot of doors for my work to be appreciated by the right people.
