Conversations with Nikki Parisi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki Parisi.

Hi Nikki, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When I was in high school, I went to the BOCES program and took cosmetology at a young age of 15. As soon as I graduated from high school, I took a full-time hairstylist position at Chi Wah Aveda, and I trained in different cities and learned from the best in the industry. When I became 21, I took off to the west coast moving to Las Vegas. I was booked day to night, five days a week. Being unhappy in that city, I took off to join my friends from home in Los Angeles. Together, we opened a salon, where I managed and put it together. After a few years, I met a man who worked in the industry named Maxi. He worked with fabulous celebrities, and I jumped into his world being his assistant. I slowly but surely gained clients of my own. I am now a decade deep in the film industry, working on everything from TV, music videos, commercials, and beyond. I have a team of girls who work with me performing hair, makeup, wardrobe, and men’s grooming. We work with some of the biggest names of the industry every single day. I am so proud of my assistants and the careers they have gotten as well.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It is never a smooth road when you are working the long hours and three departments. There are most days when I am gone from 14-20 hours or more a day including the drives. The lack of sleep makes it hard to always be on your best energy level, but together with my team, we make it happen no matter what.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a celebrity makeup, hairstylist, wardrobe stylist, and men’s groomer. I am most proud of being a mentor to all of my assistants and watching them grow. I am proud to call each and every client family. I am so happy every time someone reaches out to book me, and I am so glad they can count on me. I swear, there are days I cry of happiness because I am so proud and happy.

What were you like growing up?
I have always been a burst of energy! I spent my time as a child watching music videos on MTV and VH1. I always loved watching runway shows and knew someday that I wanted to be a part of all of it and be in the industry. I was a total glam girl. I was the varsity cheerleader, lacrosse player, and even a part of the student body club. I also was involved in helping others. I always enjoyed makeup and hair. I used to do everyone’s looks before cheerleading competitions or for the musicals. I also sang Italian operettas and in a prestigious singing group. I have always had an ear and love for music.
