Conversations with Natalie Mitchell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Mitchell.

natalie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey has been anything but traditional, but creativity has always been the common thread connecting everything I do. I started in the beauty industry over 10 years ago as a cosmetic tattoo artist, building what became [Natalie Rose Cosmetic Tattoo, into one of Orange County’s premier destinations for brows, eyeliner, lips, and fine line artistry. What began as a passion for beauty quickly evolved into something much bigger, I realized I wasn’t just passionate about services, I was deeply passionate about branding, storytelling, aesthetics, and building experiences that made people feel something.

Before beauty, I studied visual merchandising at FIDM and worked in the fashion industry as a stylist and visual storyteller. which really shaped the way I view creativity today. Fashion, styling, photography, branding, interiors, and visuals all became part of my world. Over time, I naturally transitioned into creative direction and styling, working with brands, entrepreneurs, podcasts, beauty companies, and wellness founders to help bring their vision to life in a more intentional and elevated way.

At the same time, I launched Primp Beauty, a beauty brand inspired by my love for ‘90s beauty, effortless glamour, and making high-quality products more accessible. Seeing a concept go from an idea in my head to physical products people genuinely love has been one of the most rewarding parts of my journey.

Most recently, I rebranded my personal platform into “What’s Your Agenda?” a space that reflects all sides of who I am creatively. For a long time, I felt pressure to stay inside one lane, but I’ve realized creativity isn’t meant to be boxed in. Every chapter of my career has built on the last and helped shape the perspective I bring into my work today.

I think what’s gotten me to where I am is being willing to evolve, trusting my instincts creatively, and not being afraid to start over or reinvent myself when something no longer feels aligned. I’m still growing, still learning, and honestly feel like I’m only getting started.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not! Entrepreneurship and creative work can be incredibly rewarding, but there are also a lot of unseen struggles behind the scenes. One of the biggest challenges for me was learning how to evolve without feeling guilty for changing direction. I built my name in the beauty industry, so stepping into creative direction, styling, branding, and other creative spaces felt intimidating at times because people naturally want to place you into one category. There’s this pressure to stay in the lane people know you for, even when you know you’ve outgrown it creatively.

I’ve also learned that growth often requires letting go of the fear of being misunderstood. Rebranding myself into “What’s Your Agenda?” was exciting, but also vulnerable because it represented a more authentic version of who I am creatively. Starting over in some ways, even after years of success, takes a lot of trust in yourself.

At the same time, I think those struggles shaped me the most. They forced me to become adaptable, resilient, and more confident in my voice and vision.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I wear a lot of creative hats, but at the core of everything I do is storytelling through visuals, branding, and aesthetics. I’m a Creative Director, Fashion Stylist, beauty entrepreneur, and founder. My work spans beauty, fashion, branding, product development, campaign creation, styling, and creative direction for brands, founders, and personalities looking to create a strong visual identity.

I originally became known through the beauty industry as a cosmetic tattoo artist specializing in brows, eyeliner, lips, and fine line artistry. Over the years, that naturally evolved into helping businesses not only look better, but feel more cohesive and intentional as brands. Today, I specialize in creative direction and visual storytelling — whether that’s styling a personal brand shoot, developing campaign concepts, art directing content, building a product line, or helping a founder visually communicate who they are.

I think what sets me apart is that my background is incredibly multi-dimensional. My experience and entrepreneurship allows me to approach projects from both a creative and strategic perspective. I’m not just focused on making something aesthetically pleasing, I’m always thinking about the overall feeling, the emotional connection, the branding, the audience, and how every detail works together cohesively.

I’m also very hands-on creatively. I genuinely love being involved in the details, from mood boards and wardrobe pulls to packaging, lighting, creative concepts, product development, and storytelling. I think people connect with my work because it feels personal, intentional, and emotionally driven rather than overly manufactured.

What I’m most proud of is building multiple brands and creative paths from the ground up while continuing to evolve creatively over the years. Reinventing myself into “What’s Your Agenda?” has probably been one of the proudest moments in my career because it represents the full scope of who I am creatively instead of limiting myself to one industry or title. It feels like the most authentic chapter of my journey so far.

More than anything, I’m proud that I’ve been able to build a career rooted in creativity while inspiring other women and entrepreneurs to trust themselves, take risks, and create something meaningful on their own terms.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I think the creative and beauty industries are entering a massive shift right now, especially with the rise of AI, social media saturation, and changing consumer behavior. Over the next 5–10 years, I believe authenticity, storytelling, and strong creative direction are going to become more valuable than ever. We’re already seeing audiences become more selective about what they engage with because there’s such an overwhelming amount of content being produced daily. The brands and creatives that stand out will be the ones that create genuine emotional connection rather than simply chasing trends.

AI is obviously changing the landscape in a huge way, and while it can be an incredible tool, I don’t think it can replace human perspective, taste, intuition, or lived experience. If anything, I think it’s going to make originality and creative thinking even more important. Anyone can generate content now, but not everyone can create a world, a feeling, or a brand identity that truly resonates with people. Creative directors, stylists, and brand storytellers who know how to think conceptually and emotionally will become even more valuable.

In beauty specifically, I think consumers are moving toward more intentional purchasing and simplified beauty routines. People still want luxury and aesthetics, but they also want accessibility, functionality, and products that genuinely fit into their lifestyle. I think brands that feel personal, community-driven, and founder-led will continue to outperform overly corporate-feeling brands because people crave connection and transparency now more than ever.

I also think we’ll continue seeing industries blend together more fluidly. Beauty, fashion, wellness, interiors, events, and lifestyle branding are all becoming interconnected, which is exciting because it gives creatives more freedom to move beyond one niche.

I think the future belongs to creatives and brands that are adaptable, emotionally intelligent, visually strong, and unafraid to evolve. The industry is moving fast, but the people who stay rooted in authenticity and innovation will continue to thrive.
