Today we’d like to introduce you to Martina Robledo
Hi Martina, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
In my professional career, I started out working retail—“9 to 5 to stay alive.” I worked jobs ranging from beauty shops to spas as a receptionist. Three years ago, I made a bold decision to move to LA. Within less than two weeks, I found a place to live and a job. The journey wasn’t easy, though; shortly after moving, I was dropped from my agency at the time, which left me feeling inadequate.
But as they say, the show must go on. I stayed persistent and resourceful. While working at the spa, I dedicated myself to researching other agencies to apply to and exploring side projects I could pursue. I’ve always been into tech, so learning graphic design came naturally to me. I merged that skill with another passion of mine—beauty—which led me to start creating content.
After applying to talent and modeling agencies in LA, NYC, SF, Chicago, and even overseas, I was eventually signed by two agencies. My luck had finally turned! Not long after, I landed a starring role in a major commercial for a vape company. It was an incredibly reassuring moment to finally say, “I’m a working model.”
My consistency with creating beauty videos eventually opened doors to collaborations with major beauty brands. I couldn’t believe it when they wanted to send me free goodies and have me create content for them. In this industry, it’s incredibly satisfying when others recognize your art and talent—it’s a feeling that keeps me inspired and driven.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road on this journey is never smooth—it’s all about perspective. The industry I’m in is full of constant rejection. Before I booked my first paid modeling job, it took me a long time to accept that reality. I wrestled with self-doubt and irrational worries for years, until I eventually learned to live with them.
What helped me survive was changing my routine. I began meditating, praying more, journaling, manifesting, and practicing positive self-talk. Our thoughts shape our reality, and how you see yourself has a huge impact on the outcomes you achieve. It’s so easy to dwell on the negative and feel sorry for ourselves—we almost default to it. Shifting to a positive mindset feels odd and awkward at first, but those are the moments when it matters most.
When I’m feeling down or sad, I always remind myself to stay productive. The world doesn’t stop for a bump in the road—or for anything, really. We owe it to ourselves to remain consistent with our healing practices so we can become the best versions of ourselves.
Doing so won’t reduce fear, worry or anxiety from your life, but it will develop the necessary tools for you to deal with the feels.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a mogul and a model, but best of all, I’m a mother. Just kidding—that’s what Kimora Lee Simmons said! I’d describe myself as a model, actress, beauty content creator, and mental health advocate. Professionally, I’m most notably known for being the first openly transgender Grammy Award presenter in 2017—a milestone I’m incredibly proud of.
Beyond my career highlights, I’m passionate about using my platform to empower others, foster self-expression, and inspire others to live unapologetically. I believe beauty is more than skin deep; it’s about embracing authenticity and celebrating individuality. Whether it’s through my work in the entertainment industry or my advocacy for mental health, inspiring others with my story is what I strive for,
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
What I wish I knew sooner is to not take life too seriously. During my early adult years, I put tremendous pressure on myself. At the time, I thought my mid-twenties would feel like being 30, and by my late twenties, I’d feel like I was in my 80s. The pressure to have everything perfectly aligned in your young adult life can be overwhelming and create false ideas about aging.
My advice? Just chill and don’t overthink it, babes. Also, be wary of fake friends and anyone who puts you down—they’re just jealous!
