Conversations with Mariana Flores

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mariana Flores.

Hi Mariana, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was born and raised in Mexico, Los Cabos, B.C.S. when I was about to turn 20, I moved to Los Angeles, CA. to study at the Stella Adler Academy and ever since, I’ve been here building my career, auditioning, knocking on doors, taking chances in order to be seen.

I recently got my myself a manager in Mexico, and I have been expanding myself in my own country, it’s been quite a journey and a completely different industry when you compare it to Los Angeles. I recently finished shooting a project that I booked in Mexico and I cannot talk about it yet, nevertheless, I am very excited for it to be finished and released so I can share it with you guys.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I can’t complained! Yes, it’s been a challenged, but I believe you learn from everything, each single experience I encounter forges me to become a better actor than I was before, acting it’s pretty much being able to portrayed the living circumstances of a character and you truly learn from everything that you do in life, even though it has nothing to do with acting, your relationships, experiences, knowledge helps you to be able to express it in your art, but also to become a better human being.

Of course, there are a couple of things I struggled with and I still do, but if I can share one would be, being able to get representation, to have someone who can truly believe in my art and wants to have the energy and time to invest in me… it was difficult, I really wasn’t able to find anyone, and at the very beginning you find yourself lost because you don’t even know where to begin with, who or where to start searching for them, as time goes by, I was able to build enough credits by myself that the representation came along, but it was a constant search, and at moments you feel hopeless, but you have to continue searching and never give up.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an actor, and I enjoy film so much, I find it fascinating, it’s just magical, the way a lens can see our world; it’s just so spectacular, to me movies are such a powerful way to move the masses, project, inspired, create.

I’ve done independent films such as short films and feature films that were accepted into so many film festivals, gotten nominated as best/supporting actress, I have worked for HBO, HULU, PBS, YouTube and other platforms.

Right now, I’ve been working in two projects, one is called DharMan Studios, a major production company that streams their episodes in YouTube and Instagram. The films target a young audience and typically feature a turn of events which teaches the protagonist a moral lesson.

Another TV Series called C’est La Vie, Anthologies of life is a compilation of facts, realities, situations and circumstances of everyday life, which provoke in the audience a direct identification through essential human sensations such as empathy, laughter, love, rejection and even hatred. Each mini-episode encompasses one or more ideas without contemplating any conclusion or climax for the sole purpose of moving humanity. To raise awareness of hidden realities. C’est la vie aims to serve as a social platform, universally welcoming every single individual. This project has been accepted and nominated at the Northern Virginia International Film and Music Festival for Best Web/TV Series, 80 Screams International Film Festival for Best Horror short film, Hallucinea Film Festival for Best Experimental short film, SonderBlu Film Festival for Best Short Film, Lift-Off Season Award for Acting Ensemble and many others.

I have also study, writing, directing and producing, I really enjoy the idea of telling my own stories, I believe times have changed and actors have to fully prepared and not only in the acting field, we have to be educated in many areas that can enhance our art and careers

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I really enjoy reading Psychology and Spiritual books that will improve my set of mind and the way a see life, I believe in the power of the mind/thoughts and how these ones can help you shape anything in your life. Some authors will be, Deepak Chopra, Paulo Choelo, Daniel Goleman, Elizabeth Kubler Ross among others.

I’m also into fitness, I like to take care of my body, I’m a very active person and just as much as I care for my mind, I care for my body, this one is my instrument, the way I show myself to the world and the vessel I use to express my art, it’s important to stay healthy and strong.
