Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristopher Keogh.
Hi Kristopher, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Kris Keogh, and I’m the founder of Oceanic Photography. I started the company in 2019 in Jupiter, Florida, driven by a deep passion for the ocean and a love for capturing its raw beauty through the lens. What began as a personal hobby quickly turned into a full-time creative pursuit.
I have a film degree from San Diego State University, and my time living and shooting on the West Coast played a big role in shaping my visual style. Beaches like Black’s in La Jolla and the rugged coastline of Baja California taught me how to see light, texture, and movement in a different way. That cinematic influence still runs through my work today.
Surfing also had a major impact on my creative direction. Spending so much time in the water gave me a deep appreciation for the ocean’s rhythm, mood, and energy. When I returned to South Florida, the isolated landscapes here — quiet beaches, untouched dunes, and dramatic skies — became both a source of inspiration and a canvas for my photography.
Over time, Oceanic Photography evolved into a professional brand offering fine art prints, commercial ocean photography, and custom shoots for ocean-inspired brands and individuals. The journey hasn’t always been easy, but staying grounded in nature — and in the connection between surfing, photography, and solitude — has guided me every step of the way.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey hasn’t been easy, and some of the hardest lessons came from within. During COVID, I struggled with alcohol addiction that affected my relationships and my sense of direction. My true path began when I got sober. As my body healed, my vision cleared, and I started to see my work and life with honest new eyes.
Sobriety forced me to confront things I’d been avoiding and to make real changes. That clarity pushed me back into the water with purpose. I started showing up at beaches across South Florida and simply shooting — people, light, movement, moments — letting the ocean and landscape guide the work rather than trying to force anything.
Those difficult years became a turning point. The struggle led to a deeper commitment to the craft and to a more thoughtful, deliberate way of living and creating. What came out of that was Oceanic Photography: work shaped as much by recovery and intention as by technique.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At Oceanic Photography, I specialize in capturing the raw, untamed beauty of the ocean and coastal landscapes, focusing on authentic moments inspired by the connection between people and the sea. My work ranges from fine art prints and commercial ocean photography to custom shoots that reflect the spirit of the coast.
What I’m most proud of is the way my photography tells a story — not just about the places I shoot, but about the emotional connection we all have to nature’s power and serenity. Having a background in film helps me bring a cinematic eye to every image, emphasizing mood, light, and movement in ways that stand out.
My experience working as an actor and collaborating with models has also opened up my craft, giving me full creative control and a deeper understanding of storytelling through imagery. Exploring different genres and styles keeps my work fresh and exciting, allowing me to continuously push boundaries and bring new perspectives to each project.
What sets me apart is this blend of personal connection to the ocean, diverse creative experience, and a commitment to authenticity. I don’t just take pictures; I create images that feel alive and invite viewers to experience the ocean’s energy through my lens.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Budget, budget, and budget again. Managing time, resources, and finances carefully is key to building and sustaining a creative business.
I’ve also learned not to take anything for granted. I treat every shoot like it’s my last because I truly love what I do and I want to keep doing it. I want my clients stoked — and sometimes that means hanging out an extra hour just to catch the sun hitting the horizon. Those little things go a long way.
Keeping an open mind has been just as important. Every shoot is different, and staying flexible — whether it’s the light, the weather, or the energy on set — helps me adapt and create something real. The elements change fast, and so do the moments worth capturing.
