Today we’d like to introduce you to Kamal Madbooly
Hi Kamal, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I moved from Egypt to Los Angeles four years ago to pursue acting and modeling, which has always been my dream. However, making the decision to relocate wasn’t easy. I left behind my family, career, and everything familiar in the Middle East to follow my passion, which meant starting from scratch in a foreign place.
On top of that, I arrived during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. This added an entirely new layer of complexity to the move. The city was in lockdown, and many opportunities were on hold. At the time, it was challenging to even network or meet people, which is crucial in the entertainment industry. Despite the uncertainty, I felt compelled to take the risk because I knew that if I didn’t, I would always wonder what might have been.
Leaving my family behind was one of the hardest parts of the decision. The distance made it difficult to maintain close relationships, and I often had to deal with feelings of homesickness and loneliness. I also left behind a career in Egypt, which, although it wasn’t my ultimate passion, provided stability. Stepping away from that security meant I had to embrace the unknown, and that’s something I had to come to terms with.
In retrospect, I’ve grown so much since making that decision. Though it wasn’t an easy journey, it taught me resilience and the importance of following my dreams despite the odds. Moving to Los Angeles during such a challenging time ultimately shaped me into who I am today, both personally and professionally.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The first two years in Los Angeles were the most challenging years of my life, both personally and professionally. I had moved to a new city, far away from my family and everything familiar, in pursuit of a career in acting and modeling. The transition was difficult in every way imaginable. Not only did I have to adjust to the fast-paced and competitive nature of the entertainment industry, but I also had to navigate the challenges of a global pandemic. With auditions and casting calls often postponed or canceled, I struggled to find consistent work and build the connections needed to advance my career.
On top of that, I faced moments of deep loneliness and homesickness. Being away from my family in Egypt and having to build a new support system from scratch was tough. I was working multiple side jobs just to make ends meet while continuing to hone my craft and stay hopeful, even when things seemed uncertain. It felt like there were constant obstacles standing in my way, and there were moments when I questioned whether I made the right decision in coming here.
However, everything started to change in the past two years. Slowly but surely, the hard work, persistence, and sacrifices began to pay off. As the world started to recover from the pandemic and the entertainment industry began to open up again, I found more opportunities. I began to land gigs, build my portfolio, and connect with the right people in the industry. My confidence grew as I saw my efforts turn into tangible results.
In the past two years, I’ve experienced a huge shift in my career. I’ve had the chance to work with incredible professionals, and some doors I never imagined opening for me have begun to swing wide. From landing key roles in commercials to being part of exciting projects, it feels like everything I’ve worked for is finally coming together. Looking back, I realize that the struggles of those first two years were necessary for my growth. I’ve learned so much about myself, my craft, and what it truly takes to succeed in this competitive industry. The journey hasn’t been easy, but I’ve never felt more optimistic about my future in Los Angeles.
