Conversations with Holly Lynch

Today we’d like to introduce you to Holly Lynch

Hi Holly, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I broke into the entertainment industry at just 16 as a model, traveling the world and gaining firsthand experience in front of the camera. In my early 20s, I started shooting commercials and went on to film over 60 national commercials before transitioning into acting. Being in front of the lens for so many years gave me an invaluable understanding of what makes a great image—not just from a technical perspective but in terms of expression, confidence, and connection.

While I still model, act, and shoot commercials today, I also run a full-time photography business, Holly Lynch Photo, which I started in 2015. My experience in front of the camera allows me to guide my clients in a way that feels natural and effortless, helping them capture their most authentic selves. Most recently, I wrote my first e-book, The Perfect Headshot, where I share industry insights on how to create a standout headshot.

Seeing my clients light up when they see a photo that truly represents them is what drives me every day. Whether I’m capturing a professional headshot, a lifestyle session, helping a business with brand content, or an event, my goal is always to create a relaxed and fun experience—like shooting with a friend.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Like any creative career, my journey has had its ups and downs. Breaking into the entertainment industry at 16 was both exciting and challenging—I was young, traveling the world, and learning to navigate an industry that can be unpredictable. As I transitioned from modeling to commercials and acting, I had to constantly adapt, face rejection, and stay resilient in an ever-changing landscape.

Starting Holly Lynch Photo in 2015 was another big leap. Running a business is a whole different skill set from being in front of the camera. I had to learn the ins and outs of branding, marketing, client management, and all the behind-the-scenes work that comes with being a full-time entrepreneur. There were times when I questioned if I was making the right move, but I knew I had something unique to offer—years of experience that could help people feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera.

One of the biggest challenges has been balancing everything. I still model, act, and shoot commercials while running my business full-time. It requires a lot of organization and hustle, but I genuinely love what I do. Every challenge has taught me something valuable, and each step has led me to where I am today.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in headshots, lifestyle photography, and brand photography, helping individuals and businesses create impactful, authentic images. Whether it’s an actor needing a standout headshot, a professional looking to refresh their brand, or a lifestyle session that captures real moments, my goal is always to create photos that feel natural, confident, and true to who my clients are.

What sets me apart is my 28 years of experience in front of the camera as a model, commercial actress, and performer. That background gives me a unique ability to guide my clients through the process, helping them feel completely comfortable and confident. I understand how to direct poses, expressions, and energy to bring out their best side, ensuring every image feels effortless and compelling.

Most clients say that shooting with me feels like working with a friend. That trust and relaxed energy help them feel at ease, which makes all the difference in capturing amazing images. Seeing someone light up and get excited when they see a photo that truly represents them is what I’m most proud of—it’s why I do what I do.

Most recently, I wrote my first e-book, The Perfect Headshot, sharing industry insights on creating a headshot that stands out. It’s been an exciting way to extend my expertise and help even more people feel confident in front of the camera.

At the end of the day, photography isn’t just about taking pictures—it’s about connection, storytelling, and helping people see the best version of themselves.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I believe risk-taking is essential for growth, especially as an artist. I chose not to take the easy path—I’ve risked everything to pursue a creative career, and that hasn’t always been easy. There have been times when I was broke, unsure of what was next, and navigating an industry that is constantly evolving. The business has changed and continues to change, which can make things difficult to navigate. Artists aren’t always paid their worth, and there are slow times as well as busy ones. But despite the challenges, I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

One of the biggest risks I took was stepping behind the camera and starting Holly Lynch Photo in 2015. I had spent years in front of the lens, but launching my own business meant learning an entirely new skill set—marketing, branding, client management, and everything that comes with being an entrepreneur. There were moments of doubt, but I trusted my experience and passion. It was a leap that paid off, and I now get to do what I love every day, helping people feel confident and empowered in front of the camera.

I don’t think of risk-taking as being reckless; it’s about trusting yourself, being adaptable, and pushing forward even when things are uncertain. The biggest rewards often come from stepping outside your comfort zone. No matter how much the industry shifts, I love what I do, and that passion keeps me moving forward.
