Conversations with Gracy Darlin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gracy Darlin

Hi Gracy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have always had a passion for music since I was young and I am a natural performer at heart. I love performing on stage. I pursued my music after leaving school I went onto a music college and study music performance, in that time I was still doing music projects, studios, and performing live at gigs, open mics and showcases. I am currently studying for a bachelor degree at a music university in London.

In lockdown 2020 I was able to focus more on my music and writing lyrics. I began releasing 30 second clips on social media of me freestyling and I noticed that it had a lot of attraction, i’m talking 300,000+ views on Instagram, which even I couldn’t understand.

In the start of 2021 January, I released my music via all streaming platforms and began releasing songs every month, with surprise, a radio play on BBC (The British Broadcasting Corporation) radio my song, no justice, which was inspired by George Floyd’s injustice, which had the whole world crying for justice and within that time, facing my own injustice.

With hard work and consistency, i was recognised by Google and earned my own panel. With hopes soon of a Wikipedia.

In the year 2022, I released shots fired in January. It opened doors for interviews, music videos and live shows.

I spent the year performing live sets at different venues, many many venues across London getting myself heard out there, building a reputation as a brand and image for myself.

I was performing back-to-back weekly for the last two years.
Spring – summer of 2023, i released masterpiece, which began to make noise within London. Had people moving and wanting me to perform the song at their events.

I took a break summer 2023, for myself, focused on my birthday and travelling the world, hoping that inspiration hits me overseas, where it in fact did when I came back from holidays in the summer of 2023, I began jotting down over the five months pieces of my hottest single of 2024 jump which took dedication and hard work and timing. I always aim to make my next song better than the last!

January 2024 I released two new singles, jump and home with faith that one would take off. Little to my surprise jump kick down doors and made it’s mark, I’ve had to branch out, which has bought a huge amount of opportunities, one being Scotland and now LA, also heading to Miami with many more adventures to come!

Through all this, I am here finally, in the United States with my music, a goal achieved and a dream come true.
Making it to LA, Hollywood to perform has been so surreal!

The love I have received in the United States has been unbeatable, the talent out here is amazing!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When I started out in 2020, I never faced much obstacles. I found it to be smooth sailing up until the year 2024, the only challenges I really faced in the beginning was lack of support from friends and some strangers, as when you start out, those people never did see the vision but I kept on and believed without seeing.

When it all began to kickoff the drama, the controversy, the tales of woo, betrayal the lot. Started to show itself, from those close to me and far off. But I just had to make decisions to let go of all the people who unfortunately are just not meant for me.

I realise you are going to meet a lot of people, who are not genuine in this music industry and you have to just be aware of the good and the bad and don’t let nothing and no one stop the growth.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a versatile artist I write my own songs and rap, mostly, but I also sing.

I specialise in UK Rap covering genres, such as drill, grime, hip-hop and more.

I am known for my star energy. Yes, my vibrant confident energy. I am known for lighting up every performance, every venue, bringing that fire bringing that heat! Known for my flows and my uniqueness. I am known as Gracy Darlin.

I am most proud of who I am who I’ve become. I am most proud of being able to create music being able to fulfil my dreams of being a performer. I’m most proud of achieving all my goals and being of inspiration to others. I am definitely most proud of my song Jump and being able to take Gracy Darlin International.

I feel what sets me a part from others, is my lyrics, my sound, my flow and my style and most importantly my energy.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I feel over the next 5 to 10 years. We are going to have a lot of different sounds and different artists, I also feel like we could have a phase when we go back to the 90s when music was less of what it is today.

I feel like there will always be trends or things trending I guess we’re just gonna have to keep up with the times. I’ll have to wait and see what the next 5 to 10 years brings and I’m excited.
