Today we’d like to introduce you to Charmaine Marie.
Hi Charmaine, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
My name is Charmaine Marie, and I am an LA-based content creator in love with all things fashion, beauty, & DIYs. I started my content creator journey after graduating from UCLA in 2015 with my B.A. in Gender Studies. My most loved medium is DIYing, specifically Crafting and Sewing. Ever since I was little, I was always making something. Whether it was designing my school binders or upcycling a pair of jeans that I bought at a thrift store. When I am making a DIY creation, I feel like any ideas that I may have (as wild as they could seem) are worth exploring. Creating has always been a passion of mine, and I continue to find inspiration from other incredible content creators that I follow. Being able to have an outlet for self-expression is truly a gift, my hope is that more people find joy in expressing their creativity no matter how big or small.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The biggest obstacle for me, especially when it comes to my creativity is overcoming self-doubt. As a recovering perfectionist, I can be very hard on myself, especially when it comes to learning something new in my craft. I have to continue to remind myself that I won’t be a master at doing anything new for the first time! By taking sewing classes on the weekends and continuing to create my DIY designs, I know that I am making the right steps to overcoming self-doubt and stepping into confidence. It’s not always about being the best at something you are learning but to enjoy the process of obtaining a new skill. I always reference what one of my work mentors mentioned to me before; it’s another skill to add to your tool belt!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I would define myself as a DIY artist. While I love sewing and making my own clothing, I also love crafting, specifically bedazzling items with rhinestones and gems! I love to create videos and tutorials showcasing my work on social media. It gives my audience a chance to not only see the final product of what was created, but to see the entire design process from start to finish. Whether I am filming myself at a fabric store or hunting for materials online, showcasing the process makes it feel like an adventure for both myself and my audience. The best part for me is sharing the final result of a design with my audience and interacting with them!
