Conversations with Austin Dorrough

Today we’d like to introduce you to Austin Dorrough.

Hi Austin, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hi! My name is Austin Dorrough, and I am an artist based in Los Angeles, CA. I moved here in 2017 after graduating from the University of Oklahoma (Norman campus) with a BA in Fine Arts. I act, sing, draw, and design!

I’m from a small and unassuming town called Fort Smith, Arkansas, where I grew up with my three lovely siblings (I’m the second oldest). I’ve considered myself a creative ever since I was a kid — constantly drawing, singing with my big sister, performing in school plays, and even spending a year in show choir.

Since moving to Los Angeles, I’ve worked in the entertainment industry primarily as a graphic designer. More recently, over the last year, I’ve really begun jumpstarting my acting career which I’m super stoked about.

I’ve been here for almost nine years now, and I’m really proud of the journey so far!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I think living in a city like Los Angeles means there will always be challenges of all kinds because that’s just the nature of the creative industry. You always have to stay on top of your game and be ready when that golden opportunity comes along. But I’m lucky to have an amazing support system through my family back home and the friends I’ve made since moving out here.

When obstacles come up, you kind of just have to remind yourself of your goals and stay focused. Oh — and make sure to have a lot of fun in between!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Right now, I am fully focused on my acting journey! I’m still new to the industry, but I already have a movie and a vertical series under my belt. I’m known for The James Crow Hotel (2025), a thriller based on true events that occurred during the 1960s Civil Rights era in a sundown town. The film was featured in theaters across Los Angeles and won an award at the Absurd Film Festival in Italy!

I also starred in the vertical hit series Your Billionaire Bride is My Cheating Wife, which is streaming on the DramaBox app. It’s a great crime/comedy that really let me hone in on my humorous side, playing one of the three stooges of a billionaire.

What I’m most proud of is my adaptability as a creative in Los Angeles. The entertainment industry is constantly changing, and it’s extremely important to put yourself out there, be bold, and take up space.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Podcasts are basically how I start and end my day. I put one on while I’m doing chores, busy work, or anything in between. Right now, my obsessions are Sibling Rivalry, Race Chaser (you can probably see a pattern here with the Drag Race-related content), and Good Hang with Amy Poehler.

I’m also super into Spooked, which features real-life ghost stories. I’m a huge horror fan, so if you name almost any horror movie from the past 20 years, I’ve probably watched it.

These days, I listen to more audiobooks than I do physical books, but a few titles I always go back to are Someday This Pain Will Be Useful to You, The Mountain Is You, and my favorite work of fiction, Coraline.
