Conversations with Andie Paradis & Austin Schauer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andie Paradis & Austin Schauer.

Hi Andie & Austin, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
We’re Down4Whatever, a comedic musical duo, and we got our start just like Abbott & Costello, Laurel & Hardy, Martin & Lewis and all other classic comedy duos did: by trying to write an Indigo Girls song.

Originally we met on a sketch team at The Pack (shoutout to Hot City) in pre-Pandemic times, so nearly one hundred years ago. Once it ended we met up to do some videos and Andie had an idea for a sketch about artwork at the gynecologist’s office
That turned into a 90’s acoustic song entiled “Straight Male Gyno” and the rest of the songs blossomed from there like a uh beautiful flower…blossoming.

Now, a year later, we are performing our hour long comedic music show “Music Talks” at The Yard Theater as part of The Hollywood Fringe Festival. We are thrilled to share LA an hour of our sick little jokes with, sorry, but very catchy melodies.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Honestly the biggest struggle for us has been the tale as old as time tale of scheduling in LA. We’ve both got very beautiful dogs and perfect partners (we don’t know how it happened either) so balancing real life with comedy life can be a bit tricky. Another major struggle was not making every single one of our songs sound like Pearl Jam. What can we say? We love the guys!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We do character-based comedy songs. So we hang out, talk about what would be a funny sketch and instead of writing the sketch we pick one of our favorite 90’s/early 2000’s songs and loosely parody that song with the sketch idea as the focal part.

Also – let’s just get this out of the way. We are unfortunately millennials. For years we have been running from this. But we cannot escape it and have found joy in making deliciously soaked pop culture songs that millennials can relate too. BUT ALSO Andie wants to point out that her Gen Z co-workers also like our songs…SO we’ve got an appeal to both generations 🙂 Gen X can we interest you in our dream album where all the songs sound like a Pavement song, but they are about things like overhead lighting being too bright and needing to limit our caffeine in our 30’s?

What sets us apart from others is our comedic timing together. We both think the other is extremely funny and talented and love setting up the other person on stage, in music, and on video to be the best, funniest, dumbest version of their self.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
We’ve got two more shows in The Hollywood Fringe Festival this month! June 27th and June 29th @ The Yard Theater. We’ve got tickets for sale on our instagram! We would love to see you there!
