Conversations with Allie Galasso

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allie Galasso.

Hi Allie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
As everyone does, I have a long form and short form story. I like the short one though! I randomly started doing yoga in 2012. None of my friends were into it and I was seeking change in my life at that point so I was happy to be riding solo and doing something just for myself because I hadn’t really ever done that before. I was on no particular path though felt as if I was heading in the right direction. I realized I wanted to become a Yoga Teacher in the middle of a class one evening at my regular studio in San Clemente so I spoke to my favorite teachers and got some great advice on how to move forward with all that. After loads of travel and self realization through those adventures I went to Maui and got my 200HR, I taught for a couple years and went to SF for my 300HR CE certification. I have been teaching since 2015 and it’s really the best thing I’ve ever done for me. It’s also probably the best thing I’ve done for others because yoga has been such a great gift to share.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have not had the most smooth life road, also not the bumpiest. As far as I can remember I’ve been a relatively happy and energetic person so I tend to go through the mud just fine knowing theres some clarity on the other side. I was a typical “bad kid”..sorry mom & dad!!.. and went to a bunch of high schools and dabbled in too many drugs as a youngin’. I struggled with an eating disorder and went to a lot of therapy to help me figure my life out. At one point I just needed to change everything and that’s exactly what happened. Going to therapy, traveling, following my intuition and becoming a yoga teacher shaped me as a much better, more present person. I often feel as if I wasn’t living in my own body for a very long time, not sure if anyone relates with that but that feeling left me very lost. As a naturally curious person I crave tactile knowledge and I heavily rely on visual/ real life experiences. I love being connected to my people and my planet and I think thats something we can also struggle with through life leaving us feeling down and not ourselves. Part of why I love sharing yoga so much is because it allows for that connection to be reestablished in a real way.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My yoga classes are like my art. Experiencing the body move in a way that feels seamless from shape to shape gives me a feeling that nothing else in this world does, and I love a natural high!! I specialize in vinyasa style yoga and teaching people how to go upside down and do backbends. Music is so healing and such a big part of my whole life story, so being able to teach fun and informational sequences with music that I love feels like a grand explosion of self expression. I can’t get enough of it! I’m really proud of finding my authentic teacher self and though I was slow in that process when it came to me I thought, “Yeah, there it is!” I hope to set myself apart with my creative yet functional sequencing, my slow yet not boring pace and my ability to explain things simply even when the concept is complex.

What are your plans for the future?
I’m always scheming into the future for what’s next. Handstand Workshops, Yoga Immersion Getaway’s and Level III Vinyasa Classes are up on the docket. My hope for next year is to expand Yoga into more businesses and do as many events as I can (while also keeping my head on straight). No big changes yet, growth is the goal though.
