Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Rodriguez.
Hi Adam, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is DJ A-ROK, I was born and raised in Orange County, California. My father was a DJ in the 70’s and worked at a famous nightclub in Guadalajara where he is from and it inspired me to get my first set or turntables. He was always very supportive and even built my first DJ coffin for me. I would take it to all the parties along with a trunk full of vinyl records when I was in middle and high school. Both of my parents encouraged me to DJ and would tolerate my practicing mixing and scratching for hours. This allowed me to enter my first DJ competition at age 13 which I won. From there it ignited my career and I began mixing at the most popular nightclubs and bars at an early age. I had a residency for several years when the venue burned down. It was then I booked an engaged couple for my first wedding and I immediately found my niche. In 2009 I officially launched my entertainment business A-ROK Entertainment and went on to win multiple industry awards including “Wedding of the Year” from Bride Magazine and the “Couple’s Choice Awards” from Wedding Wire several years in a row. Through my experience as a wedding DJ, I began to think of starting a YouTube Channel for some of the mixes I have created. In 2024 I launched my channel which has opened new doors for me as well as reach and entertain a whole new audience. My goal is to take my listeners through a time capsule where they get to relive that nostalgia.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The main struggle I have had is balancing my personal time with work. I have to plan for months for weddings which requires much of my focus and it can be really stressful during the summer and fall. I also work on creating mixes, DJ edits and sponsored reviews for my YouTube channel which I do every week. I really enjoy being busy but also need to learn to take a break sometimes.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I think what sets me apart from other DJ’s is my emcee and mixing skills. I put a lot of thought and care into the music selection I choose and reading the crowd to really entertain my audience. Through years of listening to music, playing it and watching the guests on the dancefloor’s reactions I have learned how to engage them and keep them dancing with my smooth transitions and thoughtful song selection.
