Today we’d like to introduce you to Steve Zim.
Hi Steve, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In 1990, I became a certified Personal Trainer. I created a business called A Tighter U Fitness. I began by training anyone that wanted to get in shape. A women approached me to train her, but unbeknownst to me, she was aiming to represent Argentina in the 1992 Olympics as a figure skater. Not only did she compete in the Olympics, but all her competitors noticed her physical transformation and my phone started ringing with calls from athletes from around the world. As my clients became more and more successful, my business grew. I started training athletes from many different sports while always keeping a healthy balance of non-pro and Olympic athlete clientele. Besides athletes, I train some of the biggest Movie and TV Stars who need their bodies to look a certain way for a role, be it portraying a Superhero or a Vice President. In 1999, I wrote my first of four fitness/ nutrition books that hit #1 on Amazon’s best sellers list.
In 2001, I became the regular on-air fitness expert for NBC National Weekend Today Show, hosted by Lester Holt and Soledad O’Brian. Subsequently, I created a regular series for the TV Show “EXTRA”, called how the “Stars Get Hot”, that later became a special on VH1. I’ve been featured in over 100 magazines ranging from Cosmo, Glamour, Self, Men’s Fitness to Muscle and Fitness. All of my hard work allowed me to open my own gym in Culver City in 2000. I created a non-judgmental space that promotes full wellness. We have a workout, nutrition, and cardio program that I created and is employed by all the trainers that work for me at the gym. I also have a full-time Massage Therapist and Physical Therapy department in my space. We work as a unit or separately depending on the client’s needs. A person can also join the gym and not use any of the services we have available and just work out on their own. I refuse to oversell the gym so the clients are never waiting to use any of the equipment. I have never run an advertisement or created a promotion for the gym. I believe that people will find that.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Smooth road, how boring. I had many struggles getting to where I am now. The least of which was my passion for what I do. I’m never satisfied, I’m always trying to find a better, more efficient way to get a positive result. When I say the positive result, what I mean is to get my clients the result they came into the gym for. I studied and then created a fitness system called Hot Point Fitness. Using infrared technology, I figured out how best to isolate muscles and muscle groups. The isolation allowed me to create bodies that are symmetrical. Our eyes like symmetry; the more symmetrical you are, the better you look and feel. I put my system into place and worked countless of hours till I got my first glimpse of notoriety. I get up at 5am to start my day and get home after 9:30pm 5 days a week and also work at least 8 more hours on the weekend. Trusting in yourself and what you are doing may be the biggest challenge for anyone that does not get instant notoriety.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
A Tighter U is a gym located in Culver City. We specialize in Fitness Makeovers. I set you up with a trainer, and I create a workout program that is specific to your body type. Then I also set you up on our nutrition program. If my gym is not close to where you live, I created a personal online fitness program so I can train you at your home or gym. The website is called www.ATUmobile.com, it acts like an app on your phone or tablet; you can also stream it on your laptop. It simulates the same experience as having me by your side training you every time you work out. My entire Nutrition plan is also available in a Best Selling book I wrote called Superhero Nutrition that can be purchased on Amazon. My makeovers have had over 100 million views on youtube. Here is one of my videos that has 34 million views. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=okM3OYaBQGg
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
