Today we’d like to introduce you to Salvador Nieves.
Salvador, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
It all started when I first discovered anime pop-ups were even a thing. A year went by into the pandemic and decided I wanted to check out these pop ups and discovered this whole community of Anime enthusiast and others who are building a business with something they love. Fast forward to August of 2022 my family and I sold our business, and I decided I wanted to try and build something of my own rather than doing something for others. I started going to small pop ups to build up my brand and started making connections with like-minded people and that started getting me more motivated to keep moving forward.
Today I continue to work hard and become not only bigger brand but also build up my clientele in the apparel printing side. of my business.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This has honestly been anything but an easy road. While I have been part of a lot of business development in the restaurant industry this was in a sense a totally new experience for me. This business has not only challenged me mentally but also socially, being an inherently introverted person reaching out and speaking to others was always something I found difficult. As I slowly began to reach out and build relationships with other vendors, I slowly began to truly get out of my comfort zone. One of the other things I struggled with was also being able to stick out in a market where many have much more to offer than maybe I do. I found that reaching out to others has been the key to bring attention to my own business and I continue to build up my own confidence to reach out to others and have them give my brand a chance.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Solo Productions?
So Solo Productions, like any other business, is a small brand that essentially started out of my parents’ living room. My brand is marketed as the “Otaku/Weeb Sports Brand.” We combine the best of Sports & Anime and produce top quality products in different mediums from stickers, posters, apparel and much more to come. As I explored the vending community, I noticed there was a lack of brands where they focus on anything sports-related and I wanted to build something that was truly different from others. Personally, I am proud that I have stood firm and tall on my niche, as it can be very easy to stray away from the original vision one has for their business. As I continue to move along with my brand, I am hoping to truly embrace the apparel side of the business and produce top quality apparel products and other visions that I am hoping to bring into fruition in the near future.
Aside from the products of my brand, I also specialize in printing apparel for other businesses at an affordable rate. While I have printed a few thing for my own brand a friend of mine reached out that I print stuff for them and have actually chosen to continue this little side hustle within my side hustle. Whether your business needs 5 shirts or 150+ pieces of apparel, I am more than able and happy to produce apparel for you and your business.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
While the pandemic occurred one of the most important things, I learned is that adversity reveals one’s true character. So, a little extra background on me is that I am also a Martial Artist and adversity and pushing past your limits is something we live, eat and breathe. As I saw many people struggle to get through this pandemic, I also profoundly saw so many others get out of their own comfort zone and find solutions to turn a bad situation into a better one. Seeing this type of attitude of turning things around has been something I keep dear and near to me so that I can also find myself coming into my own level of success
