Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Santoyo.
Hi Ryan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Before I ever started my business I had a deep desire to create something special, I had a few ideas but it was tough initially finding what would be my lifelong career. I tried multiple businesses before I ever had success. In the beginning, my now wife, Skyla, would push me to be the person I wanted to be but of course, sometimes feel unworthy. She was and is my rock throughout my entire journey, and to this day I credit her for constantly believing in me when at times I didn’t even believe in myself. She helped me so much in the beginning even though in the first few years nothing significant happened. She believed in me nonetheless. Jump to today, I have an incredibly successful business helping brands create content. I also help content creators connect to these brands and level up their creator careers. Today I get to create content to educate and entertain business owners and creators all the while helping BOTH of them achieve a new level of success.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has absolutely not been smooth, in fact, one of the toughest roads I’ve ever been on. Initially, there has to be a level of delusionality to even believe you can achieve what you think you can. In those first few years, the tests seemed to be never-ending. I had minor wins but nothing to write home about. I had moments of happiness because I saw a bit of success then it went away. Then nearing the end, or should I say beginning? I had a moment of utter failure, just feeling like I thought I could do something but it wasn’t panning out. A little voice inside my head still believed I could do it and deep down knew why I hadn’t been successful yet. The reality is sometimes we focus on the wrong thing, and for me that was exactly my issue
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about One-Off Media?
My creative agency focuses on content for brands. Through that, we connect brands to creators. Another branch of my agency is creator education. Educating creators to create converting content for brands while doing it in a way that makes a viewer want to watch. User-generated content (UGC) is our main focus at the moment but within that content can be vastly different and is not your typical unboxing-style videos. Our whole ethos is creating content that is fun to watch, whether we’re entertaining or educating the audience, how can we create something that isn’t just a vertical infomercial is what we ask ourselves. We offer strategic consulting for brands paid advertisements or organic content that uses the very same creators we educate. Creating a synchronous relationship.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Honestly, in terms of networking, just going up to someone seems to work very well. There have been countless moments in my personal and business life where just getting a 3-second burst of confidence to say “hello”.
