Today we’d like to introduce you to Julia Newman.
Hi Julia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Funnily enough I began with a master’s degree in Criminology from Cambridge. After graduating, it was impossible to ignore a lifelong pull toward architecture and design. I returned to school and, during that time, worked as a fashion buyer, gaining hands-on experience with textiles and materiality. I later worked alongside leading designers and architects, experiences that ultimately led me to start my own studio nearly a decade ago. Since then, I’ve spent ten years building a diverse, well-rounded portfolio. Our work spans commercial, retail, medical, and residential spaces, including new builds, renovations, remodels, and full interior decorating.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The pandemic, along with wider political decisions, had a significant impact on the design and construction industry as a whole. Navigating these moments required flexibility, resilience, and a willingness to rethink established ways of working. Adaptability became essential—whether through adjusting processes, sourcing alternatives, or finding creative solutions to unexpected obstacles. These experiences ultimately strengthened both my business and my approach, reinforcing the importance of innovation and responsiveness in an ever-changing landscape.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Julia Adele Design?
Julia Adele Design is known for our wide variety of services and ability to work with any style. Our studio works across commercial, retail, medical, and residential spaces, taking on projects ranging from new builds and large-scale renovations to remodels and full interior decorating. This breadth of work reflects both our versatility and our commitment to thoughtful, well-executed design at every scale.
What I am most proud of, however, is how we give back to the community. I believe deeply in doing what you do well—and using that expertise for good. Since founding my company, I have worked closely with Furnishing Hope, helping to create safe, dignified spaces for women and children, as well as for veterans rebuilding their lives. More recently, I was honored to be named the designer and building consultant for the Ronald McDonald House serving the Mayo Clinic. Contributing to spaces that support families during some of the most difficult moments of their lives has been profoundly meaningful, and remains one of the most rewarding aspects of my work.
