Community Highlights: Meet Britta Swoboda of Britta Swoboda Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Britta Swoboda.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have always been a creative person and I knew I wanted to be a business owner from a young age. My mom gifted me a camera when I was in high school, even though I didn’t want it. But little did I know that this gift would kickstart my wedding photography business. I started with family and high school, senior photo sessions. I quickly realized I loved working with people and the connection that comes with portraiture. Because of this, I thought I would love weddings since it’s a room full of people. I photographed my first wedding in 2021 and officially started my business that year. I built up my business throughout college and now do wedding photography full-time.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road. In the early years of my business, I was both a full-time student and business owner. Then after college, I moved my business from Chicago to Southern California. I had to navigate building a brand new clientele, in a new area, starting from scratch. Now I’m trying to enter into a new market in the wedding industry, which comes with its own challenges.

As you know, we’re big fans of Britta Swoboda Photography. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I focus on multi-day wedding events, specializing in documenting a couples connection with their family and friends. I believe that one of the most important parts of a wedding day is the connection that a couple has with their people. Now that we live in a digital world where every wedding looks the same, the people are the one thing that can make a wedding truly unique. And ever since the beginning of my photography, career connection has been a big emphasis in what I do. I love working with couples who want to prioritize being present on their wedding day, fully living in the events going on. These type of photos of connection and presence are truly timeless and will always be meaningful, no matter what the current trend is. My brand strives to honor the once-in-a-lifetime moments that couples have on their wedding day with their people and that’s what I love to photograph.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memories are the ones when I’m playing with my siblings or with my family on a trip. I am one of four kids, and we did everything together. A core value of my family has always been quality time. This certainly has been influential in my business and approach to weddings. I value my couples’ families so much because of my own family.
