Today we’d like to introduce you to Beverley Delay.
Hi Beverley, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started Beverley Designs back in 2005, and for the past 20+ years I’ve been doing what I love, designing websites and helping ideas come to life online. Along the way, I’ve built up my design skills (and my knack for organization), but what really shines through, if you ask my clients, is a mix of creativity, patience, kindness, and steady support… with a little humor sprinkled in too.
I feel really lucky to wake up every day and do this work. Creating unique websites for entrepreneurs, small businesses, and creatives never gets old for me. And I don’t just build a site and disappear, I stick around, keeping things fresh and functional so my clients always feel supported.
My approach is simple: listen closely, guide gently, and make the process as fun and stress-free as possible (yes, fun and websites really do go together!). A few years back, I also became certified as a Green Web Designer, so now every project has a sustainable edge. It feels good knowing the sites I create not only look great and work beautifully, but also do their part in lightening the internet’s carbon footprint.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When I first started, web design was riddled with clunky sites, dial-up internet, and endless “under construction” pages. Keeping up with the constant changes in technology has definitely been a challenge, but I’ve learned to see it as part of the fun. I’ve had to wear all the hats too: designer, developer, problem-solver, business owner, and occasional therapist for clients feeling overwhelmed by tech. There have been tough times, but those challenges shaped me into someone who’s resourceful, adaptable, and deeply empathetic to what my clients are going through when they’re building something of their own. I like to say to myself and my clients “there’s always a solution!”
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m the creative mind behind Beverley Designs, and my mission is to make the journey to a standout website fun, easy, and eco-friendly. From custom branding to streamlined, sustainable designs, I take care of it all, so the site doesn’t just look amazing, it’s lighter on the planet too.
Accessibility is at the heart of everything I build. That means high-contrast colors, layouts that play nicely with screen readers, smooth keyboard navigation, and fonts that are clear and easy to read. (Bonus: simple fonts lower load time and energy use by up to 30%, win-win!)
And here’s a little fact I love sharing: web pages today are, on average, four times larger than they were in 2010. That’s why I design websites that are fast, efficient, and planet-friendly, without ever compromising on style.
What were you like growing up?
I was born on the Scottish border and lived in the UK until my twenties. One of my earliest inspirations was my mum, who always said, “If not now, when?” That simple phrase became my mantra, and it’s still how I live my life today.
When I was 12, my mum found me a weekend and holiday job as a shop assistant, and I loved every minute of it. It gave me purpose, taught me the value of hard work, and showed me the importance of being organized. At the same time, I was endlessly drawn to creativity; colors, shapes, sketching, tinkering, making things. I’ve always loved that sweet spot where structure meets creativity, and it’s exactly what comes through in my work now.
Those early years shaped the values I carry into my business: patience, kindness, and persistence. When I work with clients, my goal is simple, I want them to feel supported, understood, and even excited about the process. To me, web design isn’t just about launching a polished website; it’s about the journey we take together to build something they’re truly proud of.
And honestly? My favorite part is when a client tells me they can’t stop looking at their site, like they’re excited to open it up every morning just for the joy of seeing it again. That’s when I know we’ve created something special.
