Check Out Sean Carter’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sean Carter.

Sean, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am the founder of Urban Conscious. This project was first conceived in 2016, and in 2017 we began to build our brand. This brand/agency/collective of Urban Conscious all began out of a reaction and desire to assist my closest friends with their creative projects, but to do so professionally and with the goal of existing as creative professionals. As much as I enjoy art for art’s sake, I never enjoyed the “Starving Artist” trope and didn’t want to see my friends living that way. This was the impetus for Urban Conscious, to be an agency for artists, by artists, for the youth. It began as an idea for a blog, but we were never satisfied with solely curating content and expressing our point of view; we felt we needed something more real to solidify our value to the culture. This led to us hosting events, first a small art show, then a local concert, eventually working to larger scale shows and a festival in 2018. Everything was and still is about shedding light on the various talented up & coming artist of our generation while also providing spaces where we can enjoy each other, appreciate culture, and find opportunities for collaboration to create projects greater than our individual imaginations.

My work with Urban Conscious over the past three years has allowed me to collaborate with film-makers, musicians, designers, and artists & to establish valuable connections that I know will lead to even greater creation. Now, I am continuing to build Urban Conscious or UC, to refine that brand, and have also been appointed Creative Director for NIRO Entertainment LLC here in Las Vegas, NV. I got connected with the NIRO team when I book the Noir Movement band for our festival in 2018, and this flowered into the relationship we now have where we collaborate daily and share resources in order to support one another’s creative goals. I am constantly getting connected with new creatives, and soon will be releasing a podcast series where we talk about life as young creatives & conscious observers. I am still refining exactly what Urban Conscious will look like to the world, but to put it simply, we are a creative agency, and I am grateful to be the leader of this organization.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
This journey has been far from a smooth road, but so enjoyable nonetheless. A few challenges include building and maintaining quality relationships across state lines, time management to balance between school/work/creativity, and trusting the process. Trusting the process is the biggest one, and I say this because we live in a time where it seems everyone’s brand becomes an overnight success when in reality these people/companies have spent months to years refining their products/services in order to provide the highest quality available to their capabilities. This is something that I feel every young creative has to come to terms with, and when we can learn to enjoy the process over seeking the outcome, we can find true freedom in our work.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I believe in living a holistic life, a spiritual life, and an enriched life. I do my best not to box myself in through labels; instead I choose to embrace my existence in the settings that I find myself. “By day” I work in the fashion industry as a Brand Ambassador for Bottega Veneta. In this position, I help to train my colleagues and inspire people to connect with the brand. I have always been known as a fashionable person and have always been a storyteller, which is why I do well in this role. As a creative, I specialize in Creative Direction & Project Management. I specialize in taking in relevant ideas/concepts and synthesizing them into a cohesive unit and sharing that with people. Through Urban Conscious, I have planned & hosted events, produced short films, produced music, & brought people together for various purposes. I am most known for my ability to help people bring to fruition their ideas & projects. I am a producer & creative in that sense, I help to bring the pieces of the puzzle together in order to fulfill the bigger picture.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
The idea that has helped me the most with networking and finding mentors is the reality that every person knows something and someone that you don’t, so be curious and make genuine connections that resonate with your soul & make you feel alive. The people who I have had that feeling with are the ones I stay close to and who constantly motivate me through their presence and pursuit of life.
