Today we’re excited to be connecting with Silas Mwenda again. If you haven’t already, we suggest you check out our prior conversation with them here.
Silas , always such a pleasure connecting with you and thank you for sharing your stories, insights and inspiring messages with our community. We’re looking forward to getting the download and what you have been up to since our last interview, but first can you briefly introduce yourself to folks who might have missed the prior conversation.
First and foremost,I would like to say thank you Voyage for having me on here again.
My name is Silas Mwenda.Am an Afro-fusion,/afro-beat Singer/songwriter Actor and commercial model signed to Wilhelmina Agency and Savage.
I was born in Kenya where I grew up but I currently reside in the US.
Am very passionate about life, people ,food, animals, nature and entertainment and God.
My journey as a performer started way back in Kenya as a little boy living right in the middle of jungle.I remember singing very early in the morning walking barefoot to school and dancing with giraffes and zebras in the jungle,I mean all I knew was animals.Jungle life was my life and at some point I felt like an animal.I was always busy chasing after elephants and lions and sliding on elephants shit as I play with other little kids from my village. We did have a small TV at home and all I watched was American kids programs that I barely understood.
I always enjoyed performing in front of my family gatherings and in both school music and drama clubs. After completing my school I felt a great urge to pursue my dreams in the entertainment industry and am so grateful to be where I am a today.I have recorded and released so many songs both in English,Swahili and Meru to a great reception.People I’ve always been so supportive of my career in a great way that I can’t imagine.Ive also been in a number of commercials, feature films and short films like Love lily directed by Elgin Cahill, Ride or Die feature film on Amazon ,Our Souls At Night, Thou Shall pump and many others.
Am looking forward to sharing my story through my arts and touching peoples lives with my arts.Thats the reason I do what I do.
Great, so let’s jump into an update on what you have been up to since we last spoke. What can you share with us?
Thanks you .So many things I’ve happened since our last conversation. Its so hard even to mention everything on here.
Luckily I got my first agent in LA which was a great move and after that I’ve been auditioning a lot … booking some and missing others as it’s the norm in the industry.
Ive been working on my mental health short film BLUE in collaboration with my good film friend Elgin Cahill who is a very talented film producer I’ve know for a long time which i think it’s overdue but will be out very soon. The world needs to watch it.Its a game changer and all excited for it.Mental health is one of my biggest cause that I love and champion for.Its a monster that kills silently and affects almost all of us regardless of our race and faith and am using arts to reach out to the wider audience and create an awareness about it.
My debut album African Rain is also coming out this year which I also think it’s way overdue. Its mostly Afro fusion,Afro beats and some few surprises here and there. My brand new single Happy day(Siku Njema) will be out mid March as well so kindly check it out on all streaming platforms.I mostly do arts so I can share my thoughts,My African culture and piece of me with other people who I’ve even never visited Africa.
Last year I was invited to work on a film original song for a Nigerian -Canadian feature film called Finding Odera shot both in Nigeria,South Africa and Canada staring some of the best talent from both countries which was a great experience. It was my first time working on a films original music and since then more doors I’ve really opened up and it’s so exciting.I also did the original song for my short film BLUE.
Few months ago I was invited by WALLY to collaborate with them on among other amazing talents in their billboard project.Wally specializes on billboard advertisements around major cities in the US including New York,Atlanta Georgia,San Francisco,Houston,Seattle and Los Angeles They invited me to be their one of their collaborators in writing positive and inspirational quotes and making short videos that will be projected and featured on major billboards in LA,Houston,New York and Las Vegas.I find this so humbling considering how I enjoy and love making people feel encouraged and empowered in every way.Its my brand’s signature to serve other people .it’s my lifestyle. It feels great imagining that lot of people both young and old will be able read my personal written quotes on major billboards every morning or evening on traffic as they commute to work or school through busy streets and highways. It brings a huge smile on my face.I feel we need this right now…spreading some love and positivity.Il be doing this throughout the year.My heart is full.
Another significant highlight and honor of my career came recently when I got invited to attend the 67th Grammys Awards ceremony held in Los Angeles this February where I had the best experience ever.I was able to meet some of my dream artiste like Will Smith,Taylor Swift,Lady Gaga ,Cynthia Erivo ,and Beyoncé ,Post Malone, Kendrick Lamar ,Alicia Keys,John Legend just to mention a few.It was a life changing experience interacting ,chatting with them and spending the night with artiste that I’ve always watched on my television screen since I was little boy back in Africa. For sure all dreams are valid and i now feel so much empowered to face this journey with aura and confidence believing that all things are possible and God makes ways where seems to be no way.Am so grateful. My heart is full.

What do you want people to remember about you and your brand? What are some of things that you feel are most important, unique, special, etc?
Great question!.
I would like people to remember me as a person who made them feel empowered and loved.
I want to create more content that carries deep messages of hope and resilience that it doesn’t matter what’s one is going through or where they come from they belong and their dream is still alive and valid. My brand is to empower other people. No matter what am doing I always strive to leave other people feeling better than I found them /after interacting with me.Respect , supporting and caring for other people is part of my brand and passion that I fight for.I mean treating other people exactly the same way I would love to be treated.I mean a candle loses nothing by lighting another candle.
