Today we’d like to introduce you to Semoura Villa
Semoura, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Honestly, becoming a trainer caught me completely offguard. I worked in fashion for nine years, thought that was it for me. Fitness was just a release. It was an outlet whether I was having a good or bad day, sitting down all day and just needed to move or just needing to zone out. Fitness was just my happy place. Along my journey, I realized that I could get a free membership if I did a part-time gig like the front desk lol I went in for the interview and by the end of the interview was being offered to be a trainer. I absolutely did not accept, but they saw something in me that I hadn’t seen it myself yet.
I was miserable working in fashion. Even though I was making great money, it didn’t matter. The best part of my day was always the gym. Very frequently I had people at work, friends & family asking me for tips and tricks and just guidance for their own fitness journey. To make a longer story less long I decided to leave fashion and venture into the management side of fitness still again, not believing in myself enough to become a trainer.
Fast forward about 2 years in : An instructor didn’t show up for class and I was thrown in to the fire & had to teach the class. That moment being forced to teach the class sealed the deal for me. That community that I helped build from the management side showed nothing but love and support. They all asked when my next class was. LOL Not long after I took the leap to audition for a studio in downtown LA, and begun my journey as a trainer.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think its had its fair share of challenges and growth periods. I’ve had a lot of great opportunities come my way and other opportunities that just slipped through my reach. By that.I mean things I wasn’t quite ready for when the opportunity presented itself. I don’t believe anything worth having or pursuing will be “smooth” struggle and hardwork is a part of the journey. It’s what you learn and how you adapt that will help you continue to thrive even in a waiting season.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a Personal Trainer & Group Fitness instructor. I currently teach boxing, strength/conditioning and HIIT classes at Heimat & Rumble Boxing West Hollywood. I’m known for not being the easiest instructor. Guaranteed to always push you past your self imposed limits but always with a smile. I talk a lot of smack, crack a lot of jokes but will make sure you come out stronger for it in the end. I’m not always filled with motivational quotes it’s not really how I roll. But I will always find a way to keep you moving and pushing through. I’m proud of the community I’ve built in classes and personal clients. That people trust me to lead them on their fitness journey whatever their goal may be. They allow me to be unapologetically me and they get a kick ass workout out of it.
What’s next?
Great question! Honestly as we enter Q4 I’m letting the gears in my brain turn about what’s next. I would love to get more pop up classes and brand collabs going. My bestie Dani Burrell & I did a Box & Breathe pop up event that had a great turnout and reviews. So def plan to do more of those in the future. Other than that I would just say stay tuned you never know what may be around the corner.
