Today we’d like to introduce you to Neide Barbosa.
Hi Neide, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
My story… It’s so hard to talk about myself sometimes, I much prefer to tell my client’s stories through my work, but let’s do this… lol
First and foremost, I’m a super proud mama to my 13-year-old daughter. She’s, my life!
Photography has been part of my life since my college years, it was a passion and an expensive hobby until about 5 years ago when I was shopping for a new camera and had an epiphany. Why not stop daydreaming about being a photographer and simply go for it? And that’s when it all became real.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being an entrepreneur and building a business is not easy, you need to be patient. There were several bumps on the road, frustration, and even tears.
In our home, it’s just my daughter and me, so on top of building a business, I was taking online classes, trying to be a good parent, taking care of the house, cooking, working my full-time job… Those are normal life things, but it wasn’t giving me the time I needed to make everything happen, there was a lot of struggle along the way… hence the tears! Lol
But now it’s like I’m redeeming the rewards. My heart fills with gratitude every time I look back and reflect on everything that I’ve accomplished, learned, and achieve during this journey so far. I’m always a student, always learning, both from the craft and from my clients. It gives me a lot of excitement and joy that my job is to create artful photographs full of life and emotion for my clients, something they’ll treasure forever. It’s my passion!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have a lifestyle approach to my work. During sessions, I like to capture moments as they happen, but always with intention, and I give my clients gentle directions as we go, for more candid results. I normally take some more classic portraits with everyone looking at the camera in the beginning, when the kids are fresh and after that, it’s really capturing their interactions, playing with each other, little expressions, smiles, kisses, and snuggles!
Also, I love film photography and although I don’t offer sessions with film (but I’ll in the future, stay tuned), it’s a big inspiration for my work! Film stock with true-to-life tones inspired my editing style which makes it the perfect family heirloom artwork.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
I do believe some people are lucky to be in the right place and at the right time. And I feel super lucky in life in general, although I haven’t found my pot of gold at the end of the rainbow… YET!!! Hahahaha
I’m extremely lucky with the people I have in my life, and the support I have, both personally and professionally.
I love how I learn from every person I meet through my business and how the relationships are becoming long-term. The families that come to me every year for new photographs and how I get to document their families growing and their kids growing up. It’s a very special thing and I feel very lucky about that!
