Check Out Nathalia Gaviria’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nathalia Gaviria.

Hi Nathalia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am a Colombian fashion designer who lives in Los Angeles for more than 20 years, It has been a long Journey from the beginning of my carrier in LA until now. As a young immigrant artist I came full of dreams and no money to make those dreams a reality, some people would consider my style eccentric because I celebrate individuality and uniqueness and because of that I had to work extra to try to sell my designs to boutiques that carried regular clothing, I often had to justified my design choices to boutique owners and convinced them to try them, it was exhausting but it worked and I started gaining a very loyal clientele that followed me over the years. I had the opportunity to open my own boutique around 2008 and it has been a huge blessing, a place where you can find interesting fashion pieces and accessories, since then my boutique is the go to place for celebrities and fashionistas around the world.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As I mentioned before trying to find my voice and my niche in LA back then was hard because if you didn’t create clothing for surfers or sold your pieces at Fred Segal you were a nobody, so that was the hardest part definitely.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I designed clothing for people that wants to be noticed when they enter a room, I have 2 sub labels under my design house: NG BLACK is one of them, the colors are black and neutrals , is sophisticated and clean.
NG GOLD is the other one and is colorful, unapologetic and flashy.
I designed for Men and women, but I could say I am most known for my menswear.
Over the years the eccentric styles that we sell at the boutique got me front and center in to the festival goers crowd so I would say I specialize in wearable artsy pieces to wear on stage or to a festival.
I am proud to be able to transform a person who enters the store in to their best looking self, I am able to find the sexy and sophisticated in everyone without making them look they are not themselves.
What sets my boutique apart from others is friendly and respectful service, great selection of designs , yes we have fun artsy pieces but not only that, we have clothing for every occasion, we can dress you to go on a Date, your birthday, go to a enjoy a concert or be on stage.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love everything about LA, the diversity of cultures, the climate, the people, the weather. LA has been my home for 22 years..

I am saddened to see how this once thriving city is slowing down and a lot of local businesses are closing. It is crucial for the economy to choose carefully where you spend your money and shop, always support your neighborhood stores and shop local.
