Check Out Marissa Gill’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marissa Gill.

Hi Marissa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I always had a dream of being an actor ever since I could remember but I didn’t know where to start. I fell in love with it when I was 7 and I played Gretl in The Sound of Music in a high school play at Lakewood High School. That’s the only acting I did until about 1 1/2 years ago where I was searching for my purpose and I was trying to figure out what to do in life. I realized that my dream was working in the film industry and I was going to go for it no matter how long it took me. Within 2 months of deciding this, I booked my first feature film in the first audition I ever did. I got 2 callbacks and when I finally got the call that was the happiest call I have ever received in my life, I was on cloud 9. In the past year, I have accomplished more than I could ever imagine and I am so blessed and thankful for all the amazing opportunities I’ve had to learn and grow in the film industry.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve had some struggles of doubt but I always try to remember that if I don’t get a role then it wasn’t for me. As an actor, you are dealt a lot of rejection and I just stay positive and never get my hopes up to high, this method has worked well for me. The hardest this about this job is you aren’t guaranteed roles and you constantly have to work on your craft and keep pushing through.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an actor who loves anything in the film industry. I have Directed, Assistant directed, background acted, script supervised, PA’d, and even written a few short films. I also do photography on the side and I have been loving that as well. I think what sets me apart from others is the drive I have and the willingness to do anything just to be involved in a film. I am constantly coming up with ways to create my own stuff when I’m not booking and trying to create ideas for me and the creatives around me so we can all work on art together.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory was going to art class and creating new pieces of art. I remember loving the paper mache and spending hours upon hours creating these really cool sculptures. On my off time my family would take me to color me mine to paint on ceramic cups, plates, and bowls, the excitement when I would pick it up a week later was so special to me. I also loved to draw and I remember being at home drawing my brother and when my he and my parents saw it they were baffled with how much it looked just liked him. I have always been a creative and loved self-expression and it has carried into the film industry as an adult. I still will create new pieces of art for presents and I love seeing the happiness it creates.
