Today we’d like to introduce you to Manuel Brito.
Hi manuel, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was a troubled kid growing up . I had both parents but being first generation here both parents were always working. I got drown towards the streets in 6 grade . By 8th grade I was drinking and smoking . high school was no different it just got more serious . it went from middle school fights to shooting and stabbing happening around me . I had my daughter at 17 . I can say I was doing everything I wasn’t supposed to. being out in the street late night meant I had to have protection so I would carry 40mm ruger on me all the time. I was selling drugs for an income and ended up getting raid and busted for guns. I was having time. so I got a lawyer which helped alot. I ended up wt felonies and all job opportunities went out the door. no one wanted to hire a felon. doors started closing real fast . I couldn’t get a job any where not even low paying ware house jobs as I couldn’t pass the back ground check. one day getting a cut after being told I could get a job due to my back wound the barber could tell some thing was wrong. I told him my story he told me a barber can be anyone with any back history . weeks later I was in barber school. the same barber hired me once I finished barber shcool.. now I own my own shop and give the same chances back to the community
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
