Today we’d like to introduce you to Lorenzo Wong
Hi Lorenzo, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Thank you for having me! My name is Lorenzo and I am a 21 year old Los Angeles-based content creator who grew up in San Diego, California. Growing up in a small suburb in San Diego, I quickly learned the importance of community and giving back, and these values have become central to who I am today. I recognized that everyone has their own strengths and skills, and I wanted to find a way to use my passions to create a positive impact. My love for storytelling and creativity was a big part of who I am, and I longed for a space where I could fully explore these interests. For me, social media opened the door to a vibrant world of creativity and connection. It introduced me to a diverse community of people who shared my passions, helping me envision a future where I could turn those dreams into reality. This inspired me to want to utilize social media in a way to help people the same way it has helped me. I began to yearn for a life that extended beyond what was familiar and this influenced my decision to move to Los Angeles when choosing to attend the University of California, Los Angeles for college.
Moving to Los Angeles to attend UCLA was like stepping into a new world. The transition from my quiet suburban life to the bustling, dynamic media landscape of LA was both exhilarating and daunting. The city’s energy and diversity were a stark contrast to my small-town roots. I remember feeling overwhelmed by the sheer number of opportunities and connections available to me. It was in LA that I truly began to explore the full potential of my interests in communications, marketing, and media.
After graduating from UCLA with a degree in Communications and minors in Entrepreneurship and Film, I was driven by my desire to understand how media could be harnessed for positive change. My academic journey and hands-on projects allowed me to apply my learning in real-world scenarios. For instance, working as a brand ambassador with various established brands, I had the chance to craft narratives and build communities with brands such as Beekman 1802, Mario Badescu, Fabletics, Bubble Skincare, Adobe, UberEats, and Dormify. These roles enabled me to execute impactful social media campaigns, boost brand visibility, and drive notable results. Each experience reinforced my commitment to using media as a tool for positive engagement and community building.
Now, as a content creator based in LA, I’m focused on using my platform to uplift and connect people. My goal is to leverage my knowledge and practical skills to create a space where everyone feels welcomed and valued, mirroring the sense of belonging I discovered when I first arrived in this city. Even though social media and marketing is just one aspect of who I am, this is a part of me that am most passionate about and want to share with others. LA has been instrumental in my journey, providing the inspiration and tools to turn my passions into a force for good.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey to where I am now hasn’t always been smooth, but each challenge has contributed to my growth and determination. Moving from a small suburb in San Diego to the bustling city of Los Angeles was both exciting and daunting. Adjusting to the fast-paced lifestyle, navigating a new environment, and establishing myself in a competitive industry presented significant hurdles.
One major challenge was building a network from scratch. In a city brimming with talent, finding my place and making meaningful connections was initially difficult. I dedicated countless hours to attending networking events, reaching out to industry professionals, and refining my approach. The learning curve was steep, and balancing school, internships, and personal projects often felt overwhelming. However, these experiences taught me resilience and resourcefulness.
Another significant hurdle was standing out in a saturated market. With so many brands and creators vying for attention, it was challenging to carve out a unique space for my personal brand. To address this, I focused on delivering value by building a brand that emphasizes community and inclusivity. My brand’s core message is about creating an uplifting space where everyone feels welcome and valued. I believe that while trends come and go, authenticity is timeless, and it’s the values I uphold that create lasting, meaningful connections. I concentrated on fostering genuine connections and promoting a positive environment where people can come together, share their experiences, and support one another.
Navigating the complexities of the industry required understanding and responding to the evolving landscape. I delved into market trends and audience insights, using this information to ensure my brand’s message of community and positivity resonated with people. By aligning my brand’s approach with these insights, I was able to enhance the impact of my efforts and create a more engaging and supportive environment.
Self-care is incredibly important, especially in a self-reflexive field like mine. It’s essential not only for maintaining my personal well-being but also for ensuring that I can consistently perform at my best. For me, self-care includes staying connected with friends and surrounding myself with people who support and uplift me. This support network helps me manage stress, keeps my creativity flowing, and maintains a balanced perspective. It’s a crucial part of how I stay motivated and focused on my mission.
When it comes to handling criticism, I’ve learned to view it as a valuable tool for growth. Instead of seeing feedback as a setback, I use it to refine my approach and strengthen my brand. For instance, when constructive criticism pointed out areas for improvement in my content or strategy, I took it as an opportunity to make necessary adjustments. This proactive attitude allowed me to enhance the quality and impact of my work while staying true to my core values of authenticity and support. Embracing feedback has not only helped me improve but also reinforced my commitment to creating a space where people feel genuinely connected and uplifted.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I believe that creativity can take different forms and the way I express my creativity is through the content that I create. I’m a content creator based in Los Angeles with a real passion for marketing and social media. My focus is on using these platforms to spread positivity and build authentic connections because I want to create a space where people can feel uplifted and supported, especially in a digital world that can sometimes feel pretty superficial.
In my work, I try to make my personal brand truly resonate with my audience, sticking to my core values of honesty and support. I’m all about connecting with people on a personal level and offering a positive vibe that feels real and relatable. My goal is to be someone people can count on for encouragement and genuine interactions, letting my true self shine through in a space that can often feel a bit fake.
One of my proudest achievements is the continuous positive feedback I receive from those I’ve impacted. Hearing from individuals who have found support, inspiration, or a sense of community through my content is incredibly fulfilling. Every day, I receive messages and DMs from people around the world. Their words of appreciation and stories of how my work has made a difference in their lives reaffirm my mission to help others and drive my commitment to providing genuine support. It means so much to me to know that I am making an impact on people’s lives and that my efforts to give back are paying off.
What sets me apart is my unwavering dedication to authenticity and genuine connection. While many create content to simply fill space, my focus is on delivering real value and fostering an environment where people feel truly supported. My approach combines positivity with sincerity, ensuring that my platform remains a reliable source of encouragement and genuine interaction. I strive to build lasting relationships with my audience, cultivating a community that thrives on trust, openness, and meaningful engagement.
Overall, I’m committed to making a positive impact and staying true to my values. By focusing on genuine connections and positivity, I hope to make a real difference and offer a space where everyone who engages with my content feels valued and supported.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Looking ahead over the next 5 to 10 years, I believe we’re going to see some major shifts in social media and digital marketing. I recently served as a panelist at the Women’s Wear Daily CEO Beauty Summit 2024 on “Inside the Mind of Gen Z,” and it’s clear that authenticity and transparency are becoming increasingly vital. At the summit, one of the most important insights I’ve noticed was how today’s consumers are demanding more genuine interactions from brands and creators. They want to see real, unfiltered content that aligns with their values. This trend towards authenticity is something I believe will only grow stronger in the coming years.
Another significant trend I see is the integration of AI and automation in content creation and marketing. With advancements in AI, we’re gaining powerful tools for streamlining content generation, audience targeting, and data analysis. For instance, AI can now help tailor content more precisely to audience preferences and predict trends. However, I think it’s crucial to use these tools while maintaining a personal touch. The human element in content creation is what keeps audiences engaged and connected on a deeper level.
Short-form video content continues to be a major trend. Platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels are leading the way in how quick, engaging videos can capture attention and drive engagement. This format is effective because it delivers content that is both entertaining and easily digestible. I’m focusing on crafting content that leverages this trend, ensuring it’s both captivating and aligned with current interests.
Community building will also become increasingly important. As the digital landscape gets more crowded, creating a space where people feel connected and valued will be essential. Building a supportive and engaged community is about fostering a sense of belonging and providing content that resonates on a personal level. I believe to succeed means to create an environment where people can come together, uplift one another, and share meaningful interactions.
Overall, I think the future of the industry will be defined by a combination of technological advancements and a stronger emphasis on authenticity and community. Staying attuned to these trends and adapting my strategies accordingly will help anyone in this space to continue to deliver content that makes a positive impact and resonates with audiences.
