Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa SVAN
Hi Lisa , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am a tailor and designer with a Master’s Diploma in Architecture and Interior Design from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, Denmark. At my core, I design—that is what I do. Fashion, interiors, architecture, and real estate development are all part of the same creative language to me. It’s a world where everything seamlessly blends to enhance, amplify, and reflect the essence of a life well-lived.
Design isn’t about a specific style, being loud, or staying quiet—it’s about self-expression. It’s about creating spaces, garments, and experiences that resonate with the individual and their environment.
Born in Philadelphia and raised in Sweden, I have lived and worked worldwide—in the Netherlands, Hong Kong, Beijing, Paris, and Copenhagen. This journey has shaped my identity as a global citizen; I belong everywhere and nowhere, constantly drawing inspiration from different cultures and perspectives.
I’ve been fortunate to call Los Angeles home for the past eight years. I first lived in Beverly Hills, but Downtown LA truly captured my heart. There, I found a vibrant community of creative brilliance—artists, visionaries, and pioneers shaping the cultural landscape of this city.
Los Angeles is a place where reinvention thrives, where boundaries blur between disciplines, and where design is not just about aesthetics but about storytelling. It’s where I continue to build, create, and contribute to a future as bold as the city itself.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been an incredible journey—never easy, never smooth—but always full of possibility. Coming to America, I struggled to fully understand the culture. Coming from Scandinavia, I assumed I had a grasp of it—we grow up speaking the language, watching American films, consuming media, and engaging with it through social platforms. But it wasn’t until I arrived that I realized the difference between the idea of America and the reality of America. It was a lesson in adaptation, discovery, and navigating a world that was both familiar and entirely new.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am the founder of SVAN Studios, where I offer residential interior design services with a deep understanding of my clients’ goals and dreams—bringing them to life beyond expectations. I also specialize in importing Scandinavian furniture classics, curating timeless pieces that elevate spaces with heritage and craftsmanship.
Simultaneously, I am building The SVAN Organization, leading the next generation of real estate movement. We merge community, high-design and blockchain technology to create profitable, future-proof urban spaces.
Creativity is at the core of everything I do—and I take immense pride in it.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
From an early age, I was a free-thinking spirit—creative, productive, and constantly exploring new ideas. By the age of 12, I was already designing and tailoring all my own clothes, shaping my unique sense of style and craftsmanship.
Courage came naturally to me. At just six years old, I would take an eight-hour bus ride alone to visit my grandmother—someone I deeply admired. Her home was a world of aesthetic beauty and sophistication, and I was entirely captivated by it. My love for design, elegance, and refined living took root in her presence.
