Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Dickens.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, IL. I had always been more into the arts when it came to hobbies and even taking classes in school. I took dance, theatre, and writing classes up until I graduated high school. When I went to college, I already knew I wanted to study screenwriting because I’d written some scripts in middle school and high school. They weren’t Hollywood ready of course, but I felt passionate about them. I’ve always loved storytelling whether it be through movement (dance), voice (acting/theatre) or on paper (writing). At California State University, Long Beach I learned from the best screenwriting and film professors. Midway through college, I got scouted by Stewart Talent Agency for print modeling and acting. Since, I’ve had the opportunity to work for some big brands and organizations (Ulta Beauty, Chicago Bulls) and I’m so excited for what’s still to come!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
My friends and I always say, “at least it was good for the plot.” Meaning, it’s frustrating right now but at least it will be a stepping stone in our character development. One day we can look back and be thankful that we had this obstacle which helped us grow to where we are today. I’ve had so many struggles since starting my career. A lot of them were internal struggles that I didn’t even realize I was struggling with. Once I became more self-aware, I was able to start the process of healing my inner child to get mentally stronger. I like to see obstacles and challenges as opportunities though. Obstacles and bumps in the road motivate me and aid in my successes.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a model, actress and screenwriter! I’m most proud of my ability to find inspiration in the world around me and within myself. I can look at a person, a situation or an object and my mind can write a compelling story with a powerful theme around it. I can model a product or service with intention and energy. I can bring a character to life by channeling emotions I didn’t even know I possessed.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I think that life is too short to NOT take risks! I didn’t used to feel this way though. I grew up very well-behaved and a rule follower (which is great thank you mom and dad)–but sometimes playing it safe won’t get you the results you’re destined for. When I was 18, I decided to move across the country and go to college in California. Although it was difficult for me at first, I wouldn’t have had it any other way. I’ve made the best memories, connected with the most talented people and learned so many things about myself and others. I even took a risk and opened up my heart to someone who didn’t deserve it. Looking back, it was one of the best risks I’ve ever taken. That situation motivated me to focus on what I really want to accomplish in life.
